My Kastmaster setup
I do alot of surf fishing in fort Lauderdale florida. I have hooked snook, snappers, jacks, blue fish, lady fish, blue runners, houndfish, bonita, spanish mackerel and king mackerel all on a kastmaster. During calm/normal surf, I use a chrome 1/2 ounce. During rougher surf and high wind I go to the 3/4. I replace the stock treble hook and use an "owner replacement hook". 50 -80 lb leader. I tie a swivel to the leader, a "power clip" to the swivel, and my lure to the clip.

The 1/8 oz and 1/12 oz are great for stocked rainbow trout!
I'm pretty new to fishing (started maybe two months ago) and just tried the Kastmaster today, fishing from the banks of the Colorado river: I caught three rainbows on them out of my five trout limit! I probably could have kept on with this lure but wanted to try out a few others and hit my limit with those instead. I was using the chrome fluorescent orange stripe, 1/12 oz size. These were easy to cast and flew surprisingly far given their weight. I think either the 1/4 oz, 1/8 oz, or 1/12 oz would all be good for 12"-14" stocked rainbow trout.Note that some of these lures either don't include a split ring, or the split ring has separated enough to look more like a spring than a proper split ring. I didn't want to tie directly to a faulty split ring, so I put on a small snap instead. My setup was to use a snap direct to the lure blade, then a 12" fluorocarbon 6lb leader, to a barrel swivel, and then to my braided 8lb line. The Kastmaster will definitely be staying on one of my lure rods going forward!

Gold 3/8 catches everything
This is my second time ordering the Gold 3/8 Kastmaster. I loved my first one but I had to cut my line when it caught a 25lb snapping turtle (picture included). I've caught just about everything using this lure: perch, bass, pickerel, crappie and the occasional snapping turtle. I don't know what it is about the gold color, but the fish like it better than my chrome/blue one. Catch fish with it on sunny days and with overcast. No issues with the treble hooks bending yet. This is my new go-to lure when there's no weeds around, and I'm so happy I can order it with Amazon Prime, as my local sports store can't keep these on the shelf.

I NEVER WRITE REVIEWS BUT>>>>>>>>>>
Damn - these work great. Caught dozens of brown and rainbow trout. Even caught some big bass!!!!!!!!!!! I used muliple lures and worms and salmon eggs but only these lures work. Buying more today.OH YEAH - here is the trick to using these that I discovered after hundreds of hours of fishing. Cast out, let it sink for 10 seconds, reel in slowly two times around, PAUSE for 1 to 2 seconds - this is when the fish would strike.Goood Luck!!!

Fake or Kastmaster quality has really sunk
I've been buying Kastmasters for years, always impressed with their quality. I just received a gold 1/4 oz. and am really dissappointed. Actually I hope this is a fake, or just a lure from a bad batch, because if this is the new standard of manufacturing Kastmaster has really hit a low. The usual smooth high lustre finish is gone. Instead I have a junky looking lure that the word Kastmaster is barely legible, and the usual Acme lettering is just Acm and a bunch of dots. The split ring actually left a mark in the finish. I know fish do not care about letters, but I hate to see a quality product loose its quality. so hopefully this one is a freak.

Great lures, but tough to know what you'll get.
Great lures! I ordered 4 in different sizes and colors. The reason they get 4 starts is that of the 4 I bought, two had a ring to tie onto and a hook, one had a hook and no ring, and one had no hook and no ring. The gold 1/4 oz had a ring and a hook, so I figured I'd try it out.Within about 15 minutes I cought a trout. This is mid January, the lake is stocked with trout, but hasn't been stocked since October or November.Great lures, and I'm excited to fish with the rest of them, I just wish they were more consistent in what came with them.

Broken before it made it out of package...
If I could give no stars I would.. This thing fell apart literally after opening the package. I'm not sure how you mess up 1/4 ounces of metal to make a pile of poop like this but they did it. Keep in mind I have used and love kastmasters so I feel bad saying this but the one that was sent to me was of poor quality and will not be using amazon to purchase for these ever again.

Best Trout Lure
One of my most used lures for fishing brown and rainbow trout. I've been using these faithfully for years; it doesn't matter the area - Kastmasters catch fish! They work best walking the lake shore or boat but also work in streams/rivers. These lures catch pan size to lunkers (largest being a 9lb rainbow for me). The size I use most is 3/8 oz - You can cast farther and cover more ground (meaning you catch more fish). Favorite colors: Gold, Gold/Red, Silver, Silver/Blue.Here is my tip to catch more fish with a Kastmaster: When retrieving, reel for about 3 seconds then quickly twitch the tip of the rod briefly then continue reeling and repeat this process. The extra action of the lure will drive fish to bite.
