We (a healthcare HR software company) feel so strongly that Donna's guidance is the way to go when implementing any kind of competency management program that we've started sending a copy of this book to each client who purchases our competency management application.Fun to read (yes, I said "fun"), and easy to understand, Donna takes the complicated world of healthcare competencies and makes it look simple. This book, and the advice herein, can save organizations literally THOUSANDS of hours of education time if they'll follow her recommendations, and the best part about it is that the Joint Commission also respects Donna's work tremendously, so you gain points with them any time an unscheduled audit occurs.If you're doing competency management in your hospital and you've not read Donna's book, then you're truly doing it wrong!

Wish there were more senerios

We re-did our entire competency program based on the Donna Wright Model. The concept of holding the staff responsible and providing them the timeline to do their initial and then their ongoing competencies worked out well after everyone understood it. There was a huge learning curve as it was so different from what we had done previously.

Excellent resource. Read it, you will find much to apply to your practice. If you are a novice it is great to get you going. If you are an old-head this is an excellent resource. I found it well worth the time and money. I have taken many of the suggestions and now apply them.

Donna Wright's book has helped me (a clinical nurse educator) change the way our department and hospital assesses competency. She has literally changed my life with her method!

Must have for every educator/hospital leader. Why we are doing competency assessment the way we are and how is it working for us? She offers matter-of-fact useful information/suggestions. Yes, it requires a change in practice...but everyone wins! Ultimately we have more skilled happy nurses and better patient outcomes.

Although as an educator, I enjoyed this book, it really was geared more towards the health care facility and work place competencies, as opposed to the educational setting. There are some valuable tips that can be transferred to the student lab setting though.
