Mudshark

If Encyclopedia Brown got mixed up with Bel Kaufman's Up The Down Staircase...wacky and wonderful!
I had to read Mudshark for a library class and I have to say I was very pleasantly surprised by both its humor and its indomitable spirit. My favorite things about the book are the beginning parts of almost every chapter where the school principal makes the most hysterical public announcements ("...and if you see the gerbil, would you please try to herd it toward room two oh six?")Great writing made me jot down quotes such as:-"It was all in the way your thoughts ran through your mind, the way you managed the flow of electrical charges jumping from one brain cell to another to form ideas."-"The one thing that I knew was that I wanted to live in a way that could never possibly hurt another person or creature. Where I could spend the rest of my life seeking beauty. And joy."And some of the laugh-out-loud scenes include a lost cat (Toby) being taken in a by a new owner and renamed Mr. Cuddles while lounging in a chair and being fed steak. There are even tender moments where the school custodian (a really great guy called Bill) "whispers a request about where to find true love." He ends bonding with the school librarian Ms. Underdorf who is "wonderfully unhinged."A cast of very likable characters and quirky, colorful animals plus the sweet wackiness all combine to make Mudshark a keeper! :)

amazing!
It was a book with a lot of details also was slightly funny. It was a realistic fiction. Mudshark was a detective that solves problems at his middle school. He is versus a psychic parrot that can think faster than Mudshark. Mudshark is a super human that can move very quickly and has a long term memory and is very smart. I loved this book so much!

9 year old loved it
My son really loved this book. He thought it was hilarious and made sure to read aloud the passages he thought were the funniest. We are going to read more Paulsen books!

Required
Arrived in a timely manner and on time as described. The rest to fill up the words required which should be done away with from amazon. If I want to just star an item that I received I should be able to do just that, with no lengthy description necessary. Oh good I am now over the limit.

Great Book
This is a perfect book for my sixth graders. As a teacher, I need my own little "library" of books designed for my sixth graders. This book is one that "hooks" them into reading more.

Wonderful story for boys
Gary Paulsen, as always, delivers a great adventure for young boys. Mudshark is extremely special as it is both realistic with splashes of mystery and magic.
