Professional`S Choice Comfort Fit Fly Mask

I have a “ Houdini” horse . He has always gotten out of his other fly masks . This one fits him comfortably with plenty of room for his eyes and best of all , IT STAYS ON!

I’m so glad I tried this mask after my mare, a/k/a Houdini, managed to get her Roma bug eye mask off multiple times even after braiding her main into the top loop! She’s recovering from a tooth extraction that left a draining hole under her jaw, and I have to keep the area covered to keep pesky flies out to avoid the dreaded summer sores common in FL. This mask is a game changer-it has no top loop to braid her mane into, but it fits so well, she’s not gotten if off while rolling in let out! I know own 4 of them to rotate! The quality & fit is so much better than the Roma, and the bright pink & turquoise are adorable on her. Side tip if your horse has a face injury that’s draining-I tape a sanitary napkin in with cloth tape & it works beautifully 😊. 8/1/2020 update-my mare still wears these masks regularly & the new patterns are really cute! However, the stitching around the edges is lower quality now... instead of the nice double hem, they are just rough sewn & I question how long they will hold up. I have repurposed some of her older masks when the netting became too snagged & collected shavings & hay by cutting the netting out to use with a bit less bridle to protect her nose from rubs. She kind of looks like a race horse in them, but it does the job! I just wish the original mask was still available as the newer version is not as well made.

Okay, so I love the fabric. My only issue, and this is HUGE for me, is that there is no breakaway feature at all. Turnout or not a foot could get caught in it or it could catch on things and is potentially very dangerous. I am planning on cutting it and sewing Velcro on it so that it will rip off if my horse gets it caught on something.

I normally use fly spray and apply it around my horses ears and eyes with a cloth. I thought these masks would be better and would keep some of the insects away the fly spray doesn’t do a good job of. I’ve been around horses my entire life and know how to put tack and accessories on. I put the masks on and within ten minutes one of my horses had the mask off and the mesh on the ear was torn. The next morning two of my other horses had also managed to skip the masks off. Both of the mesh ears were mangled. I do not feel these are the quality product described by the seller and in my opinion they are junk. I threw them in the garbage knowing I couldn’t return a damaged product. Very disappointed with this purchase.

I was undecided whether to get the horse or cob size for my 15.1 paint mare. I should have gotten the cob. There seems to be too much fabric between her eyes. I think it will still work, though. It was easy to put on and I like that it is not bulky. I will update re: if she keeps it on.
