Merrimack 52-in Antique Bronze Downrod Mount Indoor/Outdoor Ceiling Fan with Light Kit and Remote

This is an attractive looking fan but depending on your expectations, it may have several short comings. The fan is easy to install and the instructions that come with it are clear. It comes with a 6 inch down rod, but one can purchase longer down rods, and the wires that come with the fan are plenty long enough for the longer down rods. The brightness of the fan lights can be adjusted with the remote. Unfortunately, they cannot be connected to a separate wall switch. To be clear, most ceiling fans come with a separate feed for the light kit; this one does not. There are no pull chains, and no way to adjust the fan speed or control the light except with a remote. This could be a huge problem if the remote fails (or gets lost). I have seen LED bulbs mentioned in the other reviews, but the bulbs that come with the fan are 40 watt incandescent. They are housed in an enclosed fixture.My one significant complaint, and the reason for only two stars, is the noise. I installed the fan on the ceiling of my back porch and it emits a significant humming noise when the highest speed is selected. This humming noise is loud enough that I can hear it even when the A/C compressor is running (which is located around the corner). If I had purchased the fan for indoor use, I would return it. The fan is significantly quieter if medium speed is selected, but it is worth noting that none of the other ceiling fans in my home make this humming noise at any speed.

This fan and light kit was purchased for the back porch to replace one that was all ready there...the old one was set up with a wall switch to to turn the fan on and another to turn on the light...with this fan there is not that option this unit is controlled exclusively with a remote no chains on the unit for switching ! You leave the fan wall switch on all the time and do not hook up the wall light switch at all ! Wish this was in the write up on the unit it may have changed my mine on getting it ! It is very water proof and well made just the down side is total remote controlled ! It got 4 stars only because of the remote only function... The finish and coloration is just beautiful very well made ! UPDATE : Just installed this yesterday and did not have time to play around with it..... If you have a wall switch hooked up once you set the fan speed and the dimmer for the light you can turn off the light switch ...Then when you turn the light switch back on the fan unit retains the fan speed and the brightness to the lights !! NOW This changes everything and I just love it !!

If the remote breaks that comes with the fan the entire fan is useless. Harbor Breeze no longer makes this fan and there is no replacement remote that will work with this model. There is also no pull chain so the remote is the only way to make it work. You also can't replace the receiver inside the fan as it's attached to the motor. If you bought this fan from Lowe's Harbor Breeze told me they would replace it for free. Since I bought it from Amazon I'm not sure if I have any chance of getting this thing to work again. Either way it looks like I'll have to completely replace the fan after 1 year of use.

I ordered three of these for my new patio covers. The units had to be "wet rated" and these seem to be well sealed. My electrician was satisfied after putting them together and installing them that they would have no problems. They are very attractive with a kind of modern but also a little bit retro look about them. I love the remotes that are not the old "dip" switched type. These "sync" with the units which allowed me to use one control for two fans that I want to work together. Also, the controls have a selector switch that allows the dimmer to work with non-CFL type bulbs and LEDs. The dimmer works very well and the light kits are surprisingly bright on the highest settings so that I do not need any other lighting on the patio. Three fan speeds are avaliable and all that I need. I don't think that I could have been more satisfied with this purchase.

Installed and it doesn't work. The lights will turn on and then dim immediately. Medium speed on the fan doesn't work at all. When the lights are on and you turn the fan on (high or low, since medium doesn't work), the lights dim to barely visible. Called customer support and they asked if I had reprogrammed the remote, which I had, then they told me that it was a defective receiver which is installed in the motor so they couldn't send me any parts and I have to return it. They seemed to know very quickly what the problem was and that there was no solving it, which leads me to believe that I'm not the first to have this problem. So, now I have to disassemble everything to send it back. I saw some of the bad reviews, but relied on a lot of the good ones and went ahead and got it, I guess we can't always win. I will not be getting the same make/model. Amazon, as always, makes returns easy though.

I absolutely love this fan!!!! Only problem is that I now want one for every room in my house!!! I bought a 12 inch down rod for this since I had a higher ceiling and it was perfect!!! It is much more stunning in person than it is in the pictures. Beautiful design and love the remote control feature so you don't have hanging cords to deal with. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

this was a good looking fan. Too bad when we received it, it was clearly a returned item. Some pieces were missing, 1 piece was broken, and the wires had been cut and left in the box by the previous "owner". My electrician recommended sending it back which i did. i hope they don't restock it and sell it to someone else. I'm giving it 2 stars because it was a nice fan and would have been perfect for where i wanted to hang it but won't risk ordering another on line. I'll go pick one up so i can look at it and make sure everything is there and intact. It was very easy to return and receive credit for by Amazon so that was nice. Just disappointed that they sold it to me with the wires trimmed.
