My little one is obsessed with spinning tops and wanted one that could spin for a long time. This one was well worth the price. It's small but mighty. With someone who is a more seasoned spinner would easily have no problem getting this to spin for close to 5 minutes I'm sure. nothing I know nothing about spinning I was able to get it to spend for just about 2 minutes on the nose.

I dislike this top because it does not respond to a magnetic field as a "Pure Copper" top should. The claim in the Item Description section of 93% copper content is highly suspect in my opinion. When this top is spinning and a very strong magnetic field is introduced from above it just continues to spin unaffected. I have copper tops of known 100% copper content and when they are subjected to the same test they will rapidly decelerate due to Lenz's Law. I do not believe that a7% decrease in purity would cancel Lenz's Law.

I have always loved tops, and this one is no exception. It spins so smoothly, I could watch it all day long. I find it very relaxing for some reason. It spins a very long time as well.... It feels heavy and well made, and is very simple looking, but pretty. My daughter keeps trying to sneak off with it. She likes it too and she's only 10. This was a purchase I almost didn't make, but am glad I did. I really love this little top.

As a kid 60 years ago, I used to spin the gears from friction cars after they'd broken. The gears were shaped roughly like modern tops. I thought at the time that I'd invented a cool new style top that worked better than the pull string type. The only reason I bought this top & base was nostalgia.That said, this is well designed and finished. The knurled grip is similar to the smaller gear on my old rotor tops, and the bottom point is better than the gear. Yet somehow, the old salvaged gears were more satisfying because they were recycled and "free. " And my own idea. It seems like the spin time was about the same, though I never actually timed them either then or now.This was a stocking stuffer for my wife, who works with autistic kids. I thought she might be able to use it as a calming tool, or just a fun thing.

I bought a glass 4" Spinning Top Base to acompany this top. And I downloaded a simple stop watch for my computer. It takes a little time to master a fast verticle spin. But once you do, spin times beyond the 3 minute mark, come easy.With the base, this is a great disply item for your desk. Its small, quite, and has a low profile. It's much better than a pile of magnets, a sand in glass timer, puzzles, games, or the noisy Newtons Cradle. You can have contest to see who can get the longest spin times. This class of top is ideal for this purpose.
