An excellent basic handbook for anyone interested in historical Marine Corps Combat Conditioning.
Even though this manual was published less than one year before the end of World War 11, most of the techniques and tactics are still valid today. The photos are not all that clear and they sometimes only show the beginning of a technique. Nevertheless, the instructions are easy to follow and precise on each of the exercise movements. Besides, this manual was designed to be used in conjunction with actual hands-on training under the direction of an instructor. This text is organized into seven sections. The first section explains the goals and purpose of combat conditioning. The second section deals with how to organize a mass physical drill. Basic Judo techniques are taught in section three. Pistol, silent weapons and club techniques are explained in section four. Section five covers competitive games and exercises. Section six shows knife handling and knife defense tactics. The final section deals with bayonet techniques and tactics. Interestingly, one of the most interesting sections was the use of the stick for combat. As someone into the stick arts, I found the techniques taught in this manual were simple and effective. Many of the unarmed defenses shown in this World War 11 manual are as valid today as they were when this manual was first published. In conclusion, even though the U.S. Marine Corps has revised their martial arts program this book is of great value historically.Rating: 5 Stars. this stuff WORKS!!!
This a good book on WW2 combatives all the techniques are practical and could be learned by anyone.the program looks similar to the training used by the british commandos,SOE,and other elite units(some of whom had only hours to train)a lot of the tactics look vintage fairbairn (just look at the soe, commando training syllabus) and although I'm a great admirer of his work in the field of combative(since1980) I 'm not impressed with any of his books get tough!,defendu etc.both books seems lacking in some respects(at least to me)but this manual is more complete where all the weapons of the body are used including fist, elbows and even the teeth.the physical exercises still have value also, the only thing outdated of course is the bayonet.

Classic!
This is the classic conditioning and hand-to-hand combat manual from the US Marines. This is the same titled offered through Paladin-Press but at less than half the price. It includes a basic conditioning program that emphasizes bodyweight exercises combined with effective fighting skills taught to soldiers at the time. It's a great book and even better now that it can be purchased for even less.
