Reminds me of reading Mother Earth News back in the day
Loved this book. Reminded me of reading Mother Earth News when it first came out. It inspired me to want to get outside and be part of nature. Anyone who has a remote interest in being a steward of the environment and working with animals, should read this book. It covers everything from possibilities in urban developments to small scale homesteading to commercial farming. There is a lot of easy to digest knowledge on soil composition, water systems, grazing, different types of animals, fencing, making money and more. The author has spent decades learning this knowledge to allow us to be much more efficient in our projects. I think what I loved most about this book, was this overriding arc that we are part of nature, and we are stewards of nature and need to interact with it in a pragmatic, high integrity way.

Not written for the homesteader
I so badly wanted to like this book, but I just couldn’t get past the author’s ego. Too much time waisted on meaningless chatter. It reads as if it’s a transcript from a podcast. If you do buy this book, do yourself a favour and skip the first 100 pages to get to any actual information.

I love Joel Salatin
I know he has some "out there" views, I know he is a Christian and I know he is opinionated. But I love how he loves his animals with a passionate pragmatism and I ove how he has turned that farm around and that he loves it with ever fiber of his being. Thank you Joel. You are making me a better farmer.
