Very enjoyable..
Although it is fiction and it's a rarity to have someone with such good character, integrity and a straight arrow that exists in real life, that is what I enjoy about this show. I enjoy such character as Morse. He is a man with good morals, ethics, and integrity. He is a man of good character and a gentlemen. Of course, it won't happen in real life that every single murder case and missing person cases are 100% solved (as in this show,) I still enjoy it.Phenomenal job on all production and writing. You can clearly tell that this was well-budgeted, and every episodes are well-written (and quite brilliantly.) This Morse series resemble the (USA version) Bosch and Bosch: Legacy series (which I also enjoy quite tremendously.) Morse is practically all brains; however, Bosch is more brawn with just good detective work. Nonetheless, both series are very enjoyable detective-genre type shows.

Endeavor on PBS TV definitely poorly EDITED.
I love the series but have to repeat : make sure this Amazon copy is the FULL UK Length Edition. The length is the same (so hopefully OK) but the cover is different. I bought my DVD from PBS directly.I appreciate all who have brought up this 'edited' dilemma as I can't stand cut-up versions. (movie buff and others-thanks)My DVD of Series One from PBS says Full UK Length Edition on cover. For what it is worth- let me compare unedited UK version to what was shown on TV. I am very surprised to see how much was cut that was significant from the Endeavour shows I have on DVR player . I had no idea that Masterpiece Theatre edited the original British program . They are not editing out inconsequential scenes either. The length on Amazon's version is the same so I hope it is unedited for those that purchased it here. An easy test is to see whether at the end of 'HOME' they show Strange taking the sargeants exam but not Morse and then later Morse does finally goes to the Doctor who tells him he should have come in sooner as he will have a limp in middle age. ( he went to dying father's beside instead)Perhaps someone can review their Amazon purchased DVD and settle the question once and for all-- to make sure the edition offered here is unedited.( another tidbit- Morse admits it was his father who taught him to shoot not the army. Many other omissions. )I am looking forward to viewing the rest of Endeavour UNEDITED to enjoy them all over again. The whole show, from the writers ( Colin Dexter creator of Morse and Russell Lewis who wrote all the Endeavor episodes) , actors, directors, and Oxford itself, is fantastic.

As Good a Morse Prequel as Can Be Imagined
This DVD contains the Pilot episode as well as Season One which has 4 episodes. This series is incredibly good. I can hardly wait to see more of the development of the man who became the sometimes curmudgeonly, often wrong-footed and always admirable Morse of the original series. The team that is working on this really know their "Morse" and "Lewis" series and seem to delight in connecting all the elements of the original Colin Dexter novels. Everything about the series speaks of a labor of love. It returns to the start of Morse's career which viewers have seen in the "Inspector Morse" series and the continuation of the series with the more recent "Lewis" series which follows the later career of Morse's much put-upon Sgt. Lewis on his return to Oxford.Morse is still known by his first name "Endeavour," a virtue name given by his Quaker mother and his father, who was a fan of Captain James Cook whose ship was the HMS Endeavour, or by his nickname of Pagan given him during his student days at Oxford. He has returned to Oxford in 1965 as a Detective Constable to help investigate the case of a missing schoolgirl in the pilot. DI Thursday ( superb deep-voiced actor Roger Allam) recognizes Morse is a detective not a policeman and keeps him on and becomes his mentor. Another young constable named Strange is recognizable to Morse fans and a nicely done touch. All three series, of course, really star the beautiful, but not so perfect, city of Oxford and its unique place in British life.I suggest the episode "Fugue" is one of the best stories and dramas I remember seeing. For me it was a 3-hankie event and evoked os much in both the original series which I was also watching at the time. All the episodes are well-written and well-acted. Where has Shaun Evans been all this time? (Well, you can find him in "Whitechapel" Season 3.1, 3.2 for one.)This is a DVD I have already watched several times. It is a classic in my view.

Morse Lives!
If you loved the MORSE series, you will be a fan of this one. Well acted, well written, it delivers in spades all the charm of the original series. A young Morse comes to Oxford where he originally studied and meets his new boss Thursday. Thursday is another delightful character whom I have grown to appreciate for his own outstanding presence. The story lines follow a familiar path set in the same Oxford Morsians have come to love, but set in the later 60's. The casting of the younger Morse is perfect. You can almost imagine this face growing older, changing with the harried life of a detective, worn by stress and emotional pain, transforming into the older Morse. For a fun addition, they have cast John Thaw's (the original Morse) real daughter as the newspaper woman who aids Endeavour in his detection. Revealing here and there little pieces of the life of the younger man helps us understand the older Morse. Why the love of classic music, why the cynicism, why the shyness of intimacy and the fear that is always present behind those icy blue eyes? This series slowly fills in the blanks and lets us appreciate even more our beloved character Endeavour Morse. The stories are something you just let yourself settle into like a great book, enjoying each chase, each error of judgement and watching Endeavour live and breathe. For anyone who loves British mysteries of any kind, this series is a must. Enjoy it and become an admirer of the Morse legend. Then, sometimes, you too may think..."What would Morse do?" : )

No stars.
I purchased Endvearour on blu ray last April 2014. I went to watch it last evening 31st July 2015, it would not play on my bluray player, it came up on the screen authorised A group only. I know I have reviewed this producted but that was before I tried to play the bluray.

Get it, and Enjoy it- over and over again... great series My rating is 10 out of 10.
It is the prequel to Morse, but produced after Morse... kind of milking the opportunity... still it is a fantastically clever series. Nothing there to disappoint and for history buffs you get an inside glimpse of the sordid aspects of England in the 1960’s... social history in the urban environment with villains galore.. oh yes, they had some horrible people back then too; not all love, peace and happiness often associated with the decade; or at least best remembered that way!... In the Criminal world it was vicious and, the technology of today to assist in solving crimes was not present in those times. It was brawn and brain power required to get either your man or woman. For many citizens these were dark and sinister times. Endeavour captures this period in history very well. A treat to watch; I think it is even better than Morse (which might be heresy to some readers). I watch a lot of UK crime shows and I think Endeavour is consistently in the top 2 or 3... we will have to see how it stands up against other shows going forward. 10 out of 10.
