Tiger Eyes

I read "Tiger Eyes" at least twenty times while I was growing up. It is one of my favorite books. When I heard that they had finally made it into a movie, I was so excited. The movie script sticks the story line pretty closely with a few exceptions. The character of Wolf was given more focus in the movie version. I don't recall it being quite a romantic relationship in the book. However, I liked that he was made more of a central role in the movie. I was always sad that in the book, he just leaves without a real goodbye. In the movie, there is more closure. I do wish that the movie would have focused on Davey's other relationships more particularly with Jane. Also, Davey's mother also had more of a story in the book that I feel would have been great to see on screen. I am probably being too critical because the book is one that even now, as an adult I still love. All in all, I think that fans of the book will be very satisfied with the movie. Here's hoping that more Judy Blume books get made into movies!

This coming-of-age movie was meant for young adults, and truly, it is clean enough to be an after-school special, if you remember those. The story was very much character driven and the script and actors were wonderful. The cinematography was also great. I felt like the casting was perfect and I did like the realistic conflict between Davey and her aunt and uncle. Judy Blume does write great stories for kids and teens and this one is about a girl who has to come to terms with her father's violent death and the aftermath of her mother's descent into prescription drugs to escape the pain. It's really a worthy story for making into a film from a book. It's about character building and growth under the most terrible of circumstances of a parent's death. I might watch it again. The crafting of the story is golden by a seasoned professional with good intentions for her audience. Five stars.

If you are a fan of the book, you will probably love it. If you live in Los Alamos, it will be a blast to watch as it captures the town in both words and visuals. (My neighbor's house made it into the trailer!) If you're not a fan of the book and don't live in Los Alamos, not so much. Filmed cheaply like a bad Made-for-TV movie, this low budget film is painful to watch at times. Some of the acting is bad, but where it is good, it is not developed. The mountain climbing scenes made me wince, as they show the main character slipping and sliding (done well), but when her Native American friend shows up to rescue her, she is seen sitting on undisturbed ground with nary a leaf out of place. Huh? What happened to all the dust, stone, and pebbles she just stirred up in her fall??? Where is the trail on the dusty, dry earth behind her butt? Over-sites such as that annoy me! That said, I enjoyed watching it because I live in Los Alamos...otherwise, it's not done well enough to be a memorable movie. Too bad, really, as the storyline--if done well--could have made a decent movie.

A fan of this book, I am very pleased with the movie except:Walter comes across as more of an SOB in the movie. At least in the book he apologized to Davey for slapping her-this scene was left out of the movie (I think it should have been put in), in the bathroom he bashes Gwen and Davey to Bitsy, and in the kitchen he screams horribly at Davey to apologize to Gwen and then tells Gwen that her children are out of control right in front of the kids.I agree with the reviewer who said that they didn't focus on Gwen as much-her role in the book was much bigger.Scenery was breathtaking in both locations-I want to go there!!

Excellent movie.

It was a good film. A simple story, touching, well-acted, and all right for family-viewing. Worth a rental and the quality of the HD viewing experience with Amazon worked very well.As for the comparison with the book. It captures the main plot elements of the book but of course is a different animal from the book (as all movies have to be). I personally feel the movie flowed better than the book in allowing Davey to heal. I thought the book ended too soon and the psychiatrist was a weak device from Blume in order to force the story along faster. Thankfully, the movie leaves the psychiatrist out and lets Davey heal in her own time through a different flow and pacing of the plot elements. A well-done modern adaptation to film.

I was drawn to watch this movie after my mom died. It helped me to process my grief and trauma. This movie is all about a young girl healing after the tragic death of her father.

If you're familiar with the book, this will be a disappointment. It strays from the story in unnecessary ways (Wolf's story especially is embellished and changed, which does not add to the story), and leaves out some of the richness of the detail in the book. This movie was short, so they could have just made it longer and included more pertinent detail. As it is, the character's motivations are not always clear, nor do their interactions often feel genuine. The book was excellent as a realistic treatment of grief, the movie, not so much.

Loved the book and so good to see the movie!

Ein wunderbarer Film, wer vorher das Buch gelesen hat,ist meistens etwas skeptisch was den Film angeht,so auch ich, aber dieser Film ist eine echte Alternative zum Buch,oder auch um sich mal beriseln zu lassen und nicht lesen zu müssen.Willa Holland ist die wohl beste Besetzung für die Rolle als Davey.Klare Empfehlung.Achtung, die DVD ist nach amerikanischem Standard gefertigt.Also auf die Abspilbarkeit achten.

Der Film ist wunderschön. Die Verarbeitung des gewaltsamen Todes eines direkten Familienmitglieds ist sanft und nachvollziehbar dargestellt. Eine emotionale Achterbahn, die von den Schauspielern glaubwürdig vermittelt wird.

Good movie, it was well packaged and arrived quickly.
