Smooth color, and sharpens up nicely with the free sharpener that comes with. Not sure what the paintbrush was for...certainly not blending, since you blend pencils with a blending stick...but it can be used for other things :)

I am really enjoying these pencils. They have a bargain price but they perform much better than other bargain-priced pencils. They blend easily and provide a depth of color I didn't expect from pencils at this price.I love colored pencils and have some of the higher end sets in my collection - Prisma Premier and Verethin, Faber Castell Polychromos, Derwent, Marco Renoir. Also other more bargain-priced sets like the Maro Raffine, Colore, Crayola, etc... I add this just for reference so you'll know what I make my comparisons to.I have coloring books that are very special to me that I tend to use my more expensive pencils in. There are others that I mostly use the lower priced pencils in because I want to make my higher priced pencils last longer.I found myself reaching for these Art Elite pencils even when coloring in the books by my favorite artists because they give such great results.I wish the set was larger than just 36 pencils. Even with just 36 pencils, the colors give awesome tone options. I would jump on a larger set because they seem to have a talent for producing great colors. This set of 36 adds some great colors to my collection of pencils.A con, but one that is very common for pencils at this price-point: no names or numbers on the pencils.This set of pencils, at this great price, also includes a blending brush, a pencil holder, a pencil sharpener, and a small soft eraser.Edit to add: After coloring with these longer, I have to remove stars. It's such a great full kit, but I'm having a problem with a few of the pencils I have used the most. The lead separates from the wood and actually falls out of the pencil in one long piece :(. You can keep the lead inside the pencil but, of course, when you try to use it the lead just pushes into the casing. I taped the ends of a couple of them and it is working so that I can use them if I don't press down too hard. That I'm going to that trouble tells you how much I like them.
