When you open the book with its linoleum block printed cover, you will notice that it opens and both sides will lay flat. The first signature is made of random pages (colored card stock, sheet music, a 2-column lined page for indexing, a page from old books, and finally a piece of vellum paper. The next 5 signatures which give you 100 lined and blank pages; are heavy papers (60-80 lbs. text weight, instead of 20 lbs. copy paper) these enable you to write/draw on both sides of the pages and to paste/collage into your book. When you get to the last signature you find more random decorative papers (with 12 months of blank pages instead of the index page). The spine of the book is hand sewn with waxed Irish Linen using various selected connecting stiches (French, Japanese, and Ketteling). The elastic closure is made in America by Conrad Jarvis. You can throw this book into your back pack, purse, or brief case and it will survive.
