Little Organ Book (Summy-Birchard Edition)

Not for organ as a first language!
This book is nice, but I got it as a beginner book for an 11 year old who didn’t already play the piano fluently. I returned it for that reason, but it would be good for learning to play after playing the piano well.

Good book for organ beginners
Our teacher asked us to purchase this book. It’s good for beginners.

Love this book.
Although 45 years ago, I had a small home organ and taught myself to play it, I recently asked our church organist if she could teach me how to play our pipe organ. I have been playing some services on a keyboard with a partner on a guitar. My biggest problem has, of course, been learning to play the pedals correctly. The exercises and explanations in this little book have been very helpful. I played two services each on three Sundays and I'm told I got better with each service. Our organist is thrilled to have someone in the church who can play when she needs time off, and I'm thrilled to have a new hobby at the age of 60. I also bought a book of very simple organ music which I was able to sight read for prelude music but this little book has been far more help in my instruction. I'd recommend it for any pianist who wants to play a big organ. It's so much fun!

Excellent resource.
This book is an old book - but thorough in its approach to teaching basic organ techniques. Definitely an A+ choice...

Great Book for Adult Organists
This book contains great information about stops and registers, has good beginning pedal and keyboard exercises, and increasingly difficult preludes and practice pieces by well- known composers. It does increase in difficulty rapidly, however, so it is better for someone already advanced in piano abilities, and not younger students. Some of the pieces have trills, etc. that make it a challenge for someone just in terms of the handwork...throw in pedals and you are asking a lot of a beginning organist! For that reason I have given it four stars instead of five. If you are a competent pianist wanting to branch out to the organ, you will love this book.

I've used it for years and have been most satisfied with it
Flor Peeters designed the "Little Organ Book" as a teaching tool for the beginner. The student would want to have three to five years of piano behind them. It draw from many composers and Peeters composes many of pieces himself. I've used it for years and have been most satisfied with it. One of the best approaches to teaching organ that I seen. Starts with something as simple as running a scale with the thumb only. Seems rather silly when first tying it, but one quickly realizes how many times in organ repertrore that simple movement is required. A good foundation for organ study.

super organ book
My husband says this is one of his prized possessions - one of the best organ books he's ever seen. And he has been a church organist for over 50 years.

Novice organist.
The book really is for a person who is a seasoned pianist and beginning organ. I would not recommend this book for anyone who is a novice on piano.

Flor Peeters
The"Little Organ Book" by the renowned Belgian organist and teacher, Floor Peeters, makes available in one volume the more important lessons of his 3 volume classic, "Ars Organi". I know of no other work to match it and so I have no reservation in recommending it highly to all students of the organ, whether they have a teacher or are struggling on their own. This small volume contains adequate material for organ practice, covering as it does not only technical material but also a basic repertoire from the major eras of composition for the organ.

Three Stars
This requires good keyboard skills and moves too quickly. It starts simple but soon becomes difficult for a beginner.

Five Stars
Excellent throughout. Good exercises that could easily be used for performance.

A little bit disappointed
When I read the excerpt in my kindle book, I thought it was a book describing the instrument in general terms, which is what I was looking for in the first place. It is actually a book with scores for beginners. I have no doubt about the quality of this learning material. However, it is unreadable with the Kindle.
