Top tier binoculars whith best colour reproduction while representing an amazing value
In the world of optics, Pentax is a storied name with a rich history which few of the modern opto-electronics major can lay claim to. It is therefore only quite natural that when it comes to pure optical equipment such as binoculars, you can't go wrong with them. This is my sixth Pentax binocular pair and there is a reason why I keep going back to them. The Pentax ZD 8x43 ED is no different and I am delighted by this bin thanks to the following excellent attributes of this model -#1 - ED glass: Low dispersion and absolutely zero chromatic aberration. ED glasses are typically the domain of high end telescopes and its amazing to see such glasses in a binocular from a top tier optical company at such value prices#2 - Eye relief - A whopping 22mm of eye relief. A boon for spectacle wearers such as myself who can finally take in the full field of view.#3 - Colour reproduction - Absolutely the best in the business. Thanks to Pentax's legendary coatings and also the ED glass. You will not get better colour fidelity even in bins 3X the price.#4 - Ergonomics: Same as the older DCF ED series and it so good that there was no need to change whats not broken#5 - Magnesium alloy body - Light but strong pro grade body. No cheap aluminum or plastic here.#6 Value - Absolutely the best VFM binocular amongst top tier alphas. All is not rosy though. I am still unhappy with only the small 6.6 degree field of view which frankly is disappointing. While I am not asking for a 9 degree FOV at the cost of eye relief, I wish it was at least 7.5 degree offered by their much cheaper but still superb SD 8x42 WP model which also has comparable eye relief. All in all, you cant go wrong with these pair of binoculars.

Great optics at a reasonable price !!
Pentax is known for their optics and sturdiness, Z Series surely justifies the quality and the brand legacy!! If you are looking for a quality product, go for it…

Awesome Glass...Fantastic Customer Service
WARNING, THIS IS A LONG REVIEW COVERING 3 PAIR OF PENTAX BINOCULARSBack in the early '90s I purchased a pair of Pentax 8x42 DCF binoculars for hunting. I think the price back then was roughly $250. Soon after receiving them I went on a guided hunting trip. My guide saw my binoculars and told me I should have bought Nikons. I kept my mouth shut. The next day he forgot his binoculars and asked to look through mine at a deer we were stalking. When we got back to the lodge he ordered a pair of Pentax 8x42 DCFs.After 21 years of hard use, I dropped my binoculars and knocked them out of alignment. I contacted Pentax (Ricoh had bought Pentax by that point) and they gave me instructions on sending them in. One of their requirements was providing proof of purchase. Hell, that was before the internet, but I told them approximately when I bought them and that I paid $249.99 to Cabela's. That was good enough for them and they repaired them quickly at NO CHARGE, even though it was my fault. In 2001 I was able to obtain a pair of Pentax's 7x50 "Tugboat" binoculars. These things are built like a tank. I bought them for managing sailboat races and you can knock them around all you want and you can't hurt them. They've been fantastic for 22 years.I had heard of the incredible increase in contrast with ED lenses, so I set about looking for a pair to buy. Yes, Pentax was on my list, but I was certainly open to other brands. However after reading the review comparing them to Swarovskis costing 3x the price, it was a no brainer.I received them in January and they were all I imagined and more. The contrast is incredible and comparing them to my old DCFs was night and day. Additionally they're almost an inchshorter than the DCFs. But...........I dropped them two weeks ago, arg! Yep, knocked them out of alignment (this goes for any brand of binoculars folks, you drop them from 10' onto something hard and any binos will be out of alignment), so I sent them to from California to Connecticut, which took 5 days. They had them for 3 days, then shipped them back, which took 4 days. AND again, NO CHARGE.I don't think you can beat the quality of glass for the money with Pentax. I also have never had better customer service from any company. I'm sorry for the guy that had horrific customer service, but I think that was a fluke.I can't speak for their lower end glass, but their higher end stuff is awesome and customer service is best in the industry in my opinion.

Absolutely amazing
I got these to go bird watching, and I needed something really nice for under 1000. These are FANTASTIC. The details are clear, colours are bright, and they're exactly what I was looking for. I love the 10x personally, and I would recommend these to anyone.

Disappointing
The eye relief of this binoc is terrible. I have to hold them away from my eyes for a full picture. Not sure what is going wrong. I know how to properly use binos and have a similar quality Pentax bino in 8x32 that have served me well for almost 20 years.AND there appears to be no phone number for Pentax Customer Service. HELP. I dont know whether to return themfor a refund beacasue it is a bad design or box them up for a warranty repair.

Eye spacing too far apart not comfortable to view.
Decent pair of binns. Not great in low light. Found the eye spacing really uncomfortable too far apart to accommodate the 50mm lense.
