Managing and Using Information Systems: A Strategic Approach

Good deal
The book was listed as used, very good but it was brand new. It was a third of the cost on my university's website. As far as content, it seems pretty straightforward (to the point, factual).

Everything.
Great resource. Very insightful and replete with great knowledge. I have 3 master’s degree in electrical and computer engineering, strategic management, and MBA; now I am working on my PhD in Information Security Management, I found this textbook a great resource filled with great knowledge.

Really? This is a textbook??
I was a bit surprised and disappointed that "binder-ready version" is really another term for a stack of 8.5 x 11 3-ring-binder punched pieces of paper that come in plastic wrap, kind of like someone's printing these out on a color laser printer somewhere and sending them out. Of course I read what it was in the title, so I shouldn't have been that surprised, but it seems to me that for almost $80, they could put a little more effort into making a more durable product... this feels especially fragile, and seems like it would be difficult to keep in good condition without tearing some of the page holes, losing pages, or getting them out of order. The content of the book itself is really good, it's pretty interesting, has some really good examples and case studies, and it's very up-to-date, but it seems like the lack of binding is some kind of compromise that allows them to sell it for "only" $80... how sad that this is what textbooks have come to.Addendum: I made it through the class without tearing or losing any of the pages, so I was happy with that, but at times it was a bit scary. Also, I was asked to change my star rating by someone associated with this textbook as my main complaint lies with the format rather than the content. Since this review appears for all editions of the book, including the e-book, that seemed like a fair request. Judging it by content alone, I changed the review from three to four stars, but I still feel that this format needs improvement.

Managing and Using Information Systems
This book is well organized and easy to follow. I didn't think I would like the loose leaf version, but the high quality paper is better than most regular textbooks.

“MBA Level” IT/IS textbook aimed at those allergic to smartphones, cookies and/or clouds
This textbook is not aging well at all...The problem is that the authors/editors have provided the information in a manner that assumes the MBA student knows absolutely nothing about IT. For example, some of the key terms this text aims to clarify for its perceived tech numb readers include: what is a cookie, what is a data cloud. what is social media, and my favorite, what is “tagging”. It’s actually kind of insulting to be honest. The book’s content perspective appears to be geared towards MBA students from 8-10 years ago. Most MBA students today will roll their eyes at the content in this book, but for those baby boomers out there who just recently upgraded their flip phones for iPhones... this book is for you.The material is barely surface level deep, it never fully dives into concepts or explains their relevance to the future corporate leader. For all the work the editors have taken to explain the importance of integrating IT/IS strategy into overall business strategy, their instructional methodology is written in a manner that only perpetuates the dichotomy between operational and IT staff. Today’s MBA students need more than a cursory understanding of basic IT/IS concepts. You can’t lecture future corporate leaders on the importance of being fully integrated with their IT/IS dev/governance, while also writing the content in a manner that assumes they will never need to know anything beyond a cursory understanding of IT/IS concepts. The overall flow of the book is disjointed, it has no clear flow or direction, and is all over the place chapter to chapter (most likely because they keep adding IT/IS related current event topics as new chapters in each edition). The content on IT/IS strategy, governance, and org capability alignment is very good. After these initial chapters, everything goes sideways. There are entire chapters dedicated to concepts that really only deserve to be sections or paragraphs within previous chapters. Example, SOX Act receives as much page time in this book as critical IT/IS capability development methodologies like agile development, or significant IT/IS privacy concepts.Professors and teachers alike, it’s time to start considering more relevant textbooks.

I bought this book for my daughter...
My daughter asked me to order this book for her. It is required for one of her MBA courses this semester. I am certain that she will enjoy using it.

Mediocre
Some good insights, some fillers. Overall would pass it along to someone new to the workforce.

Awful quality book, ripping students off.
I bought this because the course I need it for has an open book exam. The only good thing about this is that you can get 10% off if you are a Prime Student member. I bought 2 other copies for friends too. However, the book should not cost this much money. It looks like someone just printed out the book, punched some holes in the paper and is selling it for $90. Very poor quality book but there really isn't a choice.

The quality of the book itself is bad since it is a loose leaf copy
This was a mandatory text book required for a course in university. The quality of the book itself is bad since it is a loose leaf copy. The pages are very thin and feel like they will rip when flipping through the book.

Awful, obsolete.
Per the headline says, this textbook is straight up the worst and terribly outdated. College and university professors, please do not subject your students to this garbage!
