The Bloodline War (The Community Series Book 1)

Take the plunge!
Engaging characters populate an intricate plot with twists and turns aplenty in the fictional world of Tappan's "Community". If you enjoy sorting out complex moral quandaries with a healthy dose of undeniable primal attraction (be warned Toni and Jaken sizzle) you really must suspend disbelief and just dive in!

I liked it.
I really did like this book a lot. Different take on Vampires and Demons. I did not like that women were kidnapped from their lives top side and taken down below. Jacken and Toni were a very good couple once they finally got together!

Adding Tracy Tappan to my FAV PNR collection
I have to say I am always happy when I take a chance on a new (for me) author and it's a winner! I absolutely LOVED The Bloodline War, the first of many more I hope in The Community Series'.The first book The Bloodline War gave us Jacken and Toni and I loved them straight off the bat! The world Ms. Tappan creates gives us a new take on the Vampire genre and I can appreciate it when it's done right. We find out that Jacken and his people are taking a certain "type" of female from Top-Side. That's what they call those of us living in our world because they live below the surface, separate from us to hide the fact that they need blood to survive and from the persecution they dealt with in their history when they tried to live among us humans. They are Varcolac aka Vampires that need to repopulate their species and Toni has the right kind of genes needed! When she gets there she learns there are other women who have been taken and are mated to Warriors like Jacken. The leader of the community, Roth, has selected a few warriors who would make a good match and Jacken isn't one. Jacken has a secret. There are certain conditions he and his biological brothers have to follow in order to live among the Varcolac (you learn why as the book goes along).and now that Toni has arrived, she is pushing all of his buttons and driving him crazy in more ways then one! The problem, even though Toni and Jacken rub each other the wrong way, they are attracted to one another. We learn there is another group called Om Rău who live "next door" to the Varcolac and they are evil to the max! There is also another group of the Om Rău who live Top-Side and are looking for Toni. The leader of this group has a connection to Toni that we learn about and I won't reveal here. What I loved was that most PNR books the male lead is always in control, and confident and in "some" areas Jacken is so not lol. I loved it! I love the show of vulnerability. It was really refreshing. The Warriors in this series are everything you want in a PNR vampire book. Tough, handsome, crazy funny and not afraid to show their softer side.I have already purchased book 2 in the series and I can't wait to start reading! My ONLY con. It was the usie of Jesus, Christ, Holy Christ, Holy F, etc in different variations as way of an OMG or swearing. It was a lot! I don't mind swearing (I have a bit of a potty mouth myself) but using the above as expletives was a bit much for me. I am not a fan of it in any genre...books, tv, etc. It falls flat for me.NOW with that said, it does NOT mean I didn't enjoy the book! I will continue to read about Jacken, the other Warriors and the war that is coming. I'm glad I found Ms. Tappan and her fresh take on the world of Vampires.

Vampires, demons, and Fey... oh my!
This was a unique, quirky take on all things that go bump in the night, Yes, it's dark and gritty at times but somehow still manages to be funny and light-hearted. During the first half of the book, Tracy Tappan takes the time for world-building and letting us get to know her characters, which I appreciated. The last half has suspense and edge of your seat action... and I couldn't put my Kindle down! The Varcolac (or Vampires) have been forced to live underground in a city 'next door' to their Om Rau demon enemies... but instead of creepy or gothic, imagine 1950's wholesome perfection. Oh, and unmated Varcolac are all virginal because of the changes that come over them once they've taken a lover. Nope, I doubt you've ever seen Vampires like this before.Jacken was a hard-as-nails bad ass but thankfully, so was Toni. I loved his inner softie, the way they talked smack to each other, and the innocence of how they fell so deeply in love. They were a great couple and my only complaint is that I would have liked to have seen a little more of them together."She stopped crying. Holy sh--, he'd made her stop. Him! His lungs expanded. He was King of the World.".Most of the men blend into the background of the story so it's the other 'Dragon' women that drive the plot forward and give it heart and soul. The Dragons love their husbands passionately but they're fed up with their prison-like circumstances and angry about the kidnappings and forced assimilation of their kind into the community. Change is desperately needed, but how far are they prepared to go to make it happen?"You Vârcolac males like to make us Dragons think we're so special to you, but the truth is," she lowered her voice to a hiss, "we're not even worth the effort for you to fight for us.".Toni, Beth, and Kimberly were all intelligent, tough, and dymanic characters. I really felt for their plight and I was relieved to see them speak up and take action to get what they wanted. Toni and Kimberly both drop some shocking personal revelations and I had to keep reminding myself that they were only fictional... I had that much of an emotional connection to them.If you're looking for a new paranormal series, then give The Bloodline War a chance. You won't come across anything else like it

Different take on vampires
This is one of those books that I find difficult to review because while I loved the synopsis and it started really well, the idea behind it was interesting and I appreciate its difficult to be truly original when there's just so many similar books out there but this was working well, I had a few issues along the way, I know, I know, when don't I?Dr Toni Parthen is a blood expert which means she gets called out to lots of weird occult cases but work aside her life is not great, she doesn't have much luck with men in fact she's stopped dating altogether, she also has issues around her father's abandonment back when she was six, he divorced her mother and her and her brother Alex at the same time since she hasn't seen him since. On her way home after being called out to yet another weird case Toni is involved in a car accident, she's then abducted from the hospital by what she believes to be 'schizoid delusional freaks who appear to have formed a cult'Toni discovers she has special DNA her blood contains the elusive Peak 8 which means she's one of the few compatible females that can mate and breed with the Varcolac (vampires to us) and that's the reason she's been kidnapped. The Varcolac are exceptionally attractive and while all the men are incredibly hot Toni finds herself inexplicably (in her opinion) attracted to the man who kidnapped her, Jacken, but Jacken is not her list of potential mates.Toni it appears is more special than she realises and therefore there's more than the Varcolac after her and until she mates she's vulnerable but how can they expect her to mate when firstly the one she's attracted to is not interested plus why would she want to marry into a delusional cult.I had several problems with this book, first was the women, they seemed intend on putting themselves, their families and everyone else at risk, I just couldn't understand this, they're mated and have children why would they do that...and Toni while she wasn't exactly a TSTL female she seemed to almost have a death wish, running headfirst into danger at any opportunity.I don't want to make this a spoiler review so I'll just say there were no surprises, people were who we knew they'd be and things turned out as expected, which was a bit disappointing. This was a nice enough read, annoying women aside, but I can't see myself continuing on with this series.

Hooked from the first page
This was a gripping read right from the start. Toni never feels like she really connects to anyone in her life except her brother Alex. At 32 she's built a quiet life revolving around her job as a blood pathologist and weekly dates with Alex. But what if there's a reason that she can't forge meaningful relationships with those around her? Abduction from her hospital room after a car accident leads her to a world that she never knew existed but might just be the place she was always meant to be.I really enjoyed reading this novel. The characters in tarana are all wonderfully written an you get to see real growth in the relationships between the warriors with wives. They evolve and change throughout the novel which was very satisfying to read. However there are an awful lot of characters that are introduced quickly. This sometimes makes it hard to keep them straight in your head as you read. I found myself going back a few pages to re-read physical descriptions or introductions. But first novels like this have to set the foundation for the series and I didn't mind having to work a little-it is worth it!I am a huge fan of the Black Dagger Brotherhood J.R.Ward and Bewitched and Bewildered Alanea Alder series and this seems to be a middle ground between the two. It's definitely worth a read and I'm excited to read the next book.

Great new vampire world
Toni is kidnapped by the varcoroi (vampires) to marry a warrior and replenish their race but she refuses to mate with any of the warriors and just wants to leave, slowly she falls in love with jacken who is head of security and has taken a vow of celebacy because of his genes he cant ever take a mate. He has to protect her from the om rau (demons) who want her to use as a brood mare and are very violent.what follows is a fun and at times very humorous tale of romance with action and emotion and not just with the main characters as there are a few sub plots in about the women who are already mated to warriors.I really enjoyed this story as i was sucked into a new world of vampires ive never read before and i couldnt stop reading until i had finished the whole book. I know this is a first in a series so there is a lot of world building but it wasnt too much and it didnt spoil the story.

Loved It
This book was amazing. I wasn't sure when I started reading the story but all aspects of the story draw you in and hook you. Toni is a doctor, a blood specialist, who has never felt whole, she goes through the motions but her world changes one night when she's kidnapped by Varcolac, a breed of vampire. This is the start of an amazing journey which she is determined not to take part in but things change and her heart is tested, thanks to Jacken, leader of the Warriors and her protector. Not to give too much away, this book has everything you would need in a supernatural love story. Amazing story, plot, writing, language, characters, history, angst, and love. Throw in lots of horny hunks and it's brilliant. I am looking forward to the next book to see where all these great characters find themselves. Would recommend.

Great read
I loved the the world the author has built with all the wonderful characters. Although the relationship takes awhile to build its still beautiful to read as it takes shape. The lead characters have plenty of depth and personality and the storylines are strong with plenty of action and packed with information. Lots of twists and turns and different points of view so you can get a better understanding of other characters and storylines. A Brilliant start to a series i think I'll definitely be reading book 2 secret under ground community's and lots of hot alpha men what's not to love 😋
