I have used these in the past in hanging baskets! They really do work!! I was able to water less frequently and my flowers stayed healthier even in upper 90's temperatures!

One of the problems with coir-lined baskets is that water runs out of them as soon as it’s put in. These liners when wet form a gel that retains the water. I can’t imagine planting baskets without them.

Thought they were just paper towels when I opened the package. But with water added into the planter, they turn into gelatin and really keep the moisture even. Fantastic - and at about $1 each, worth every cent!

These sheets are nothing special. It's like silica balls between two sheets of plastic. When I watered it and it expanded, the sheets separated and the balls slipped out from between them. I have one in a hanging basket with a "coco liner" and I water less than weekly. The only plant that's growing in it right now is an onion, but it definitely retains more water than my other basket which has no liner.

I think it's the wrong product for the use I chose it for so it's probably not fair to review it until I try it again. I'm using it with coco fiber inserts for hanging baskets and it's really not retaining any water. But the coco fiber inserts are so porous that I think it's drying out far too quickly for the mats to do their job. Had these been plastic hanging containers, it might be totally different.So 3 stars for now. I think the idea is good and given the right type of container it should work fine. Just don't combine it with the coconut fiber inserts for hanging baskets and you'll be fine.

It gets so hot here in the summer, and I can’t keep up with watering my hanging baskets every day (sometimes they even need it twice a day.) The mats kind of fell apart when they got wet but they did work to keep the baskets moist - I only had to water every 5-6 days even in the dead heat of summer!

Placed these in my petunia hanging plants with very positive results!

I decided to soak a mat before putting it in a container--what a mess!. The mat fell apart and became a bowl full of jelly. Put a mat in your container first, then water the mat, add dirt and plant your plants. Truefully, I haven't tried this yet, but I suspect it will work better.
