Nice telling, well written. The major failing? This publishing series explicitly forgoes footnotes. This coupled with the author's extensive tendency to insert quotes is uncomfortable. As a reader who has read most of the cited source material, those quotes are familiar. However, a reader seeking additional reading on the subject is likely to be frustrated.
