An important book to read even if you don't like the BJP
'The New BJP' by Nalin Mehta is THE book you need to understand how Narendra Modi and Amit Shah turned the party into an election winning machine. Based on data and anecdotes, Mehta is somewhere between Ram Guha and Rajdeep Sardesai when it comes to writing about politics. I would recommend everyone to buy this book. It is an essential read.

Well researched book on political organisation and consensus building
Very thorough, data driven, and well researched books (as evidenced by nearly 200 pages of footnotes)! The author comes across as unbiased, and presents a cutting analysis backed by data as well as interviews with insiders. Recommended.

Mostly unbiased, lots of data, lots of references
The author has done a very good job of presenting data and conclusions. Usually such tomes just have table after table of boring data, but here this is not usually the case.He is also mostly neutral in tone, but his true colours slip out once in a while. In one sentence he refers to BJP’s followers using the congresssi slur “bhakts,” and in another sentence he feels the need to say “Hanuman, the monkey god.”Minor slips, but Freudian in nature.
