Decepcionada

Good but short.
I enjoyed the novel but damn the pages flew by fast. I loved Naja and Washu in particular.Big thanks to Seven Seas for translating the novels which Anglophone Tenchi Muyo! fans have yearned for decades.. Hopefully sales will be strong enough to warrant the translation of the Tenchi Muyo! GXP novels next. Thanks a bunch!

The Best of the "True Tenchi" Novels
While the other novels tell the stories of Tenchi's grandfather and great-greatfather, this one concentrates on a more major character -- Washu! It expands her backstory while telling what was implied in the OVA. While those of us that have seen a certain episode can already guess what happened, it was still enjoyable to read it in this novel's form, as well as find out more about OVA Washu. The whole thing is tied together well to the series, it's not just a retelling but expansion of what we see there as a nice companion novel. The downsides? It is expensive for an ebook and kind of short on top of that. I'm not sure if someone unfamiliar to the series would enjoy it. Also, though this book ties together nicely to tell about this time in Washu's history, it leaves us wanting to know what happened to her after the end of it and before she first appears in the OVAs. A note at the end mentions possibilities, but it's been so long I don't think we'll get to see this.

Satisfying back story, shows the true potential and scope the series can have
This isn't high literature or hard sci-fi but the ideas are grand and these True Tenchi novels show how Kajishima's vision is so much larger than a single harem comedy.

Amusing and depressing at the same time?
Has some excellent humor, but kind of a sad story overall. Probably worth it if you love the Tenchi series, but not recommended as a standalone novel.
