Guardians of the Galaxy Omnibus

Not your mainstream GOTG
This is not your mainstream Guardians of the Galaxy if all you’re used to is the movie adaptations. This is the original team but set in the year 3000. Felt like a good story, ends with something missing, won’t spoil it, and sad that there is no follow up omnibus. Art is great, 90’s style, dialogue is not too heavy like the 60’s and 70’s, and the stories are all very entertaining. If you have no clue about the original GOTG or love 90’s comics, pick this up. It’s half the price here and eBay as of 11/28/2022, so don’t miss out!

Excellent Packaging and Fun Action Packed Story
The most important thing to know here is that packaging is excellent. When it comes to books, like graphic novels, especially those omnibus collections that are heavy and typically come with a dust jacket, the treatment of the product and its packaging is essential. This 3rd party seller, Cheap Graphic Novels online, knows how to it right. I've ordered directly from them before and, even though it takes a little longer to get to you, you can almost always be assured that your books will arrive in excellent condition, unlike some other company, who shall remain nameless. As for the book itself, I read the vast majority of these in single issue format when they were originally released and it amazing to have the all together in one big oversized collection along with several I've never read. I love these future Marvel Universe stories that combine new characters with ones that we're familiar with.

The Avengers of Space
This is the original group with added members throughout. The stories are great, the characters awesome, settings amazing, definitely pick it up. This is classic comic book collecting for me. I wish it was the full 62 book run, but still worth it. I have all the original comics but don't want to handle them. This Omnibus is perfect for any classic 90s comic fans.

Comprehensive collection
This was a birthday gift for my teenage son who had been wanting to learn more about the Guardians of the Galaxy backstories. The item arrived in great condition and ahead of schedule. This book had been on his wish list for some time so he was floored when he received it. Now he is a self proclaimed expert on Guardians, unraveling and confirming suspected theories he had.He re-watches the Marvel movies with a new sense of awareness and enlightenment and each time discovers layers of "Easter egg" references the writer's inserted into the scenes and dialog.100% this is the best gift for anyone with similar appreciation for the Guardians and the Marvel universe.

The OG GOTG!
If you're familiar with previous Marvel omnibuses, this is the same format used for those, reliable binding and beautiful glossy pages.I bought this for my girlfriend, who loves the, now world famous, 2008 iteration of the Guardians of the Galaxy, and wanted to see the roots of the team.Don't expect to see Starlord, Rocket Raccoon or Groot anywhere in here though, as the characters in this collection comprise the original team, most recognizably Yondu, who appears in the film adaption played by Michael Rooker. If you love the recent movie and want to learn the legacy of the characters that made it possible, then this is a great look at the stories and team that ultimately led to it in the first place!

The TRUE Guardians of the Galaxy team!
Jim Valentino is amazing and this is the TRUE Guardians of the Galaxy team. Loved his work with this team and disappointed when he left Marvel with the others to create Image Comics. I had many issues of this series back in the 90s but missed several and never found them all. So excited to have Valentino's complete run in one beautiful book. I purchased the 3 volumes of GOTG in the Year 3000 TPBs so I now have the original GOTG series in it's entirety!

Awesome series!
When i was a kid this was my favorite series. The tagline "Explore the marvel universe of the 31st century with the guardians of the galaxy" caught my attention. You would find out what happened to various marvel characters 1,000 years from now. Think star trek the original series mixed in with superhero soap opera and you get Jim Valentino's awesome Guardians of the Galaxy series.

Fantastic Collection
I'd almost forgotten how much I enjoyed this series back in the early nineties. Marvel are at the top of their game in compiling this collection. This book is well produced and substantial while still being wieldy, though the pink end papers seemed an odd choice - maybe it was Korvac pink? Anyway, this is the original team of Guardians from an alternate(tive) timeline and set in the future. The development of this team had quite a convoluted past set across many guest appearances, all of which are collected elsewhere in trades and Marvel Premiere hardcovers. This kicks off with the 'The Korvac Quest', which was an early Marvel 'event' that ran across various 1991 Annuals and which followed on from the ground breaking Avengers/Guardians crossover 'The Korvac Saga'. Unfortunately it's not on a par with the epic Michael/The Enemy tale, but does close the circle with regards Korvac's origin and adds something, sensibly, rather than detracting from the original finite, apocalyptic ending. Marvel has wisely tweaked the running order slightly to make more sense. Then it's into Jim Valentino's Guardians series proper, which is a light-hearted, action packed romp that keeps things moving briskly whilst cleverly embellishing the Guardian's rather patchy backstory simultaneously. There are several recaps within the story, so you can pick this up without having every earlier story.Of course the nineties was a period unto itself for narrative inanities and visual excess, but the Guardians doesn't really suffer noticeably for this. Perhaps because there's a veritable cornucopia of Marvel mainstays contributing to the art, from Herb Trimp to Al Milgrom, and Al's pencils and inking here are noticeably better than his West Coast Avengers material. Yes, the pervading style is often 'nineties loose' to the extent that Ron Lim's issue (featuring the Surfer, natch) really stands out with its strength and self assuredness. It also seems that the reproduction has 'burnt out' the inking in places, as the lettering is very light, but it's nothing to worry about. As well as writing this Jim Valentino also does much of the penciling, and with covers he works alongside Jim Lee and Rob Liefield. Of course Jim would go on to found Image comics taking the aforementioned with him, where they really established the nineties look.Jim's storytelling is fun whilst at the same time being multithreaded. There's also a real sense of self depreciation, particularly evident in the credits which harks back to the old bullpen style. There are also many contemporaneous sci-fi references from Star Trek TNG to Terminator, Mad Max, Escape From New York etc. Talon's invitation to join him is almost a dead lift from Mad Max 2 which works just fine. Personally, I was really looking forward to Kevin West's reassuring, tight, highly consistent layouts but we'll have to wait for the inevitable second omnibus, which I hope Marvel get around to releasing well before a third Guardians movie. This series is a great read and actually gets better as it goes on. Don't make us wait too long for the second big book Marvel!
