Chocobo GP (Nintendo Switch)

Fun game for a FF fan, but maybe not your average Joe!
Game is a cute kart-racer, similar to Mario Kart, with all Final Fantasy characters and levels! There is a story mode in the game, where you unlock many characters through story progression. Gameplay is fun but a little hard to get used to at first, but you can move around control schemes which is good. There are a lot of things locked behind real-money purchases, which is disappointing. Not only do you pay real money, but you then need to grind out online matches to unlock the premium characters (Cloud/Squall in season 1).I think you will enjoy this game if you love Final Fantasy, but other than that, go get Mario Kart instead!

Full of bugs and microtransactions
The idea of a kart racer with final fantasy characters sounds great and would be a good game if square didn't put in so many microtransactions. I was playing the story tutorial the game would crash at the same part, first I thought it was a issue with my controller but after the third and forth time I realised it was a game problem. The karts seem clunky to control giving you a disadvantage to the CPUs. I would avoid this game unless they patch it and becomes cheap.

Buggy and unplayable
Apparently patches have been released to fix some of the bugs but frankly this game was not ready for release. Sections of the tutorial on story mode were not passable. I love all things FF but I've not felt such disappointment about a game in a long time. Just play mario kart.

Disappointed
Expected nostalgia but instead it's like a free2play mobile game. Special characters locked behind different currency, requiring you to play everyday, grinding out online races, completing daily and weekly challenges. Shame

Β£30 for a game less than a quarter the size of a normal kart racer
This is a game that will do everything it can to grind you down into paying over a hundred into getting the content other kart racers start with.If you have kids DON'T buy this for them, you will end up in the papers because your kid spent 2 grand on this. The courses are okay though there's only like 5 (with different versions of most of them making a total of 9) a mario kart booster pack just dropped it's first WAVE and it's got more than this entire game.the character designs are nice, however many of them are filler while the fan favourite characters like cloud and Squall are locked behind paywalls or long grinds. The gameplay itself is fun, but without variety it's not rewarding the grind it expects. Mqybe in a year with it's had the mandatory roadmap of updates to add stuff people want it'll be worth it. Until then not recommended

An interesting game
As of 17/5/2022 the game isn't as complete as compared to Mario kart.. you get 5-6 race courses..if you got a favourite popular character he/she will be behind a pay wall. Currently season 1 micro transaction character is Cloud.. but you can unlock Squall by playing the game and unlock with coins you earn. (I'm surprised squall isn't behind a paywall with cloud)Myril(currency bought with real cash for premium stuff like cloud)expires every season..so if you were saving up to get the next microtransaction character..you are out of luck.. honestly the Seasons are a little too long at the moment..3 months..and for season 1 they extended it by 2 weeks when it was meant to end the day before this review. The story is meh.. its short..its just the characters entering a race and travelling to the location but keep getting stopped on along the way to get more characters...and worst bit is...if you want to unlock the secret character you have to do the story again in extra mode.. 10 chapters.. 2 races per chapter..but you will eventually get sick of hearing "Who are you?".Positives I'll give is:Every Friday you get 50 myril & stickersThe micro-transaction Characters will eventually come to coin store..so if you wanted Cloud.. he'll eventually be buyable by earning coins..and he's currently popular in races.Coins earnt in each season carries over to the nextOverall I wouldn't say it was a bad game..its just the micro-transactions..that's bad. But I do recommend the game to FF Fans.. but if you are curious its free in the eshop so give it a try.In free mode you can race but can't buy nothing.
