Q: What is linking hook used for?

The linking hook is used as an alternative way of attaching the ratchet winch to the wall. It allows the ratchet winch to swivel and line up with the tension of the cables. Instead of attaching the winch directly to the wall mount (the winch is perpendicular to the wall), you can thread the linking hook through a hole on the backend of the winch. This hook is then used to attach the ratchet winch to one of the pad eyes that has been screwed directly into the wall. I am able to tighten or loosen tension easier and without interference from the teeth of the winch using the linking hook and pad eye.

You use the cable to attach the sail to the poles so you can adjust the tension.
