Here comes the sap!
These are top quality. If you install your tap correctly the pvc hooks on perfectly. Getting lots of sap from red maples in Virginia.

Not a good hang design
The idea is a good one and the PVc neck makes dumpint the bags very easy! My issue is that the PVc wall is very thick and does not hang on the spile securely -especially if they are at a slight down angle. the tin types can slid in behind the collar on the spile but there is not enough room to get the PVc behind the collar - especially if the bark is real rough. i solved this by using bungee cords to hold the PVc tight to the tree.

Great starter kit
Great starter kit. Had never sugared before. With this kit alone, in my rookie year, I made 2.2 gallons of delicious maple syrup. The kit comes with complete instructions. Easy and fun!

Fantastic system
Two years ago, we decided to start tapping the maple trees in our yard. After some research, we bought this kit and got set up. The directions with this kit are detailed and easy to follow, and we had a lot of fun with it. Last year we wanted to make even more maple syrup, so we came back to Amazon to buy this kit again. I happened to see a kit very similar to this one (both named "Maple Syrup Tapping Kit with EZ Sap Sack Holders") but the other one was $10 cheaper. This is just a heads-up that both kits are almost identical, the difference being that the cheaper kits has plastic spiles (taps). To anyone wondering, it is DEFINITELY worth $10 to buy the metal taps!! They are much easier to tap and to hang the bags on!! So here we are, back again this year to buy another set to upgrade from 20 taps to 30 taps, and we are buying this kit once again. We have never used anything else for collecting sap, so I can't exactly call this "the best." But one thing that we especially appreciate about the closed bags is that rain can't get in them. And it rains a lot in these parts! It has been a lot of fun for the whole family. Our two teenage daughters did all the collecting and it kept them busy for about six weeks. Your mileage will vary based on location and climate, but last year with 20 taps we were able to boil down 6 gallons of maple syrup. We had a lot of happy family members and church friends when we shared the wealth!!I washed and reused the bags from years one and two, and they clean and store well. 19 of them are out hanging on trees right this minute. This year one of the bags had a leak and had to be discarded, which isn't bad for bags that aren't rated to be reused in the first place! So they are certainly sturdy enough for a full outdoor season, plus a little extra if you want to push the envelope.Of further note, last year we boiled down the ~200 gallons of sap on two double hotplates on our front porch. That cost us about $250 in electricity bills. This year we have invested in The RO Bucket to use reverse osmosis to reduce the sap before boiling. The season isn't over yet, so I don't know the savings amount yet, but if you love this tapping system and want to do more of it, you might want to look into the RO Bucket as well! Maple syrup is delicious, but this isn't the cheapest hobby in the world to get into!
