Silva Spike Jet Classic Zoom Compass, Adult Unisex, Transparent

This is a great compass and the current scarce availability of this item speaks volumes. The needle settles very quickly and the changeable scale pieces are a great idea. I already had one of these from a UK supplier but wanted a spare (I like this so much). However, the item that I received had a bubble in the capsule that did not disappear on warming to room temperature. I had heard from a EU supplier (all4o) that they had a lot of returns of this item due to bubbles. I had not thought to ask Amazon to check the capsule before shipping - maybe they would have done maybe not. I don't know if the item was bubble free when dispatched but if it was perhaps shipping via air causes irreversible damage. I would not buy this again without assurance from the seller that the capsule is bubble free.

The first one of these I bought developed a large bubble on first use which did not disappear at room temperature. So I returned it and ordered another. This one did exactly the same on my first trip to Aviemore in March. Again the bubble remains at any temperature. If it was a small bubble I would not bother however at zero degrees this bubble becomes very large. I was expecting much better from a high end Silva. They are obviously not much better quality than cheap unbranded knock offs. Not a happy customer!
