Everything you need to know
Husband is avid hunter, so I got this as a gift. He is in the process of reading it cover to cover. I assume that he has found it to be useful.

While this "Gun Digest Book of Shotguns" is better than having to rely on a "parts" diagram on a small brochure, it failed me in three respects.1. It did not cover one shotgun I own at all (I was under the wrong impression that it was covered as "same gun, different name")2. It had one other shotgun I own (correct manufacturer and model nomenclature) but it did not have the correct assembly/disassembly information. Although I can't confirm using references at my disposal, I presume the manufacturer made an (extensive) change; still, disappointing.3. For some operations the author REALLY needs to let you know up front what tool is needed. Having a shotgun in pieces in front of you only to find that the next step requires a unspecified length long tool that is NOT a standard phillips or flathead screwdriver is very frustrating. Having to stop, determine (by guess and by golly) what that fastener is way down at the bottom of a 10 inch hole, and then go buy (or worse, having to order) the tool is maddening. Not a "failure" in the same sense, but I wish the author had included (at least in some appropriate places) some clue about how much effort (torque) is required to unfasten (and later reattach) a part. I'm sure others have been in the same position: this is just not coming loose! How far should you push this before it reaches the breaking point? Experience helps, but sometimes you just come up against this - and no one wants to add breakage to the gun they are taking apart.I gave it two stars because I'm sure some hobbyists will find it more useful than I did. Professionals probably don't need the book.

It's not bad.
As someone who has disassembled and reassembled many firearms as a gunsmith, you occasionally get stuck on some older, less popular models. Especially when they haven't been cared for and cleaned in 30+ years. Flipping through the book, I found the written directions, and especially the photographs, to be a bit over simplified. Probably would be a more expensive book though. In the automotive world, this would be a Hanley, NOT a Bentley manual. Handy to have around, but can't give it a full five stars.

Excellent reference book on shotguns.
I first searched for a needed shotgun detail. This book indicated that it had detail on the shotgun I needed info on. It has a lot of different shotguns and the pictures of disassembling and tips on reassembling were clear and understandable.
