Wassup Rockers

Seven skateboarders from the LA ghetto make a foray into Beverly Hills and Hollywood. This works because the filmmakers are not afraid to reduce the clashing cultures to stereotypes. Ghetto Latinos, valley girls, future fratboys of America, gangsta black kids, old Hollywood stars, all play the roles we expect of them. Mix them all into a lively story with some humor and it was a movie I really enjoyed. A nice touch was while Jonathon and valley girl 1 go upstairs and immediately get it on, Kico and valley girl 2 start to talk, each trying to understand something about this foreign creature they are confronted with. Sort of sad that Jonathon gets laid and Kico doesn't.

I loved this movie since I was a youngin and also motivated me to skate. Will recommend this one if you kinda like documentaries movies or such.

I want to start off by saying that what I like best is that these are real kids playing the parts and not actors.And no it is not a documentary. Their experiences in this film are scripted but the (possible)reality of it all shines through.These kids live in the "ghetto of the ghetto" in East Los Angeles. One day they decide to go skateboarding in Beverly Hills.And as you may expect, they find trouble or should I say trouble finds them.If you have ever rooted for an underdog, then you will love this movie.This film is by Larry Clark and he is known for crossing the line when dealing with drugs and sex in his movies.However, the only lines crossed here are the ones between cultures and socioeconomic classes!

I’ve loved this movie since I was 14! It really depicts the cultural and social differences between the rich and the poor/the Latinos and the whites. I grew up skating, listening to and playing punk music so I can relate to this movie in every aspect. 10/10 would highly recommend. Only putting 5 stars cause I can’t put 6.

This movie's pretty funny, I guess it appealed to me because I went through many similar situations and the kids in the film are funny to watch as they go through their adventure in order to skate in Beverly Hills. "We from the ghetto!"

A realistic depiction of the experience many teens in California have. So authentic it feels like a documentary... except somehow more authentic.

LARRY DID IT AGAINThis was my era of skating, just not in LA. I connected to this on every level, being the poor kid who skated from the hood wearing tight ass jeans and s***. NAILED the time period and honestly this is the late 2000's answer to KIDS.

Another Larry Clark gem...but West Coast style! Took me back to my childhood as a latino skate punk in the 80's growing up totally unaccepted by the sheep in my neighborhood. Cool music by as well. Dig it.

Don’t know why this is considered a classic.

L'état du dvd est parfait, l'envoi rapide et soigné mais attention : absence de sous-titrages !!!! Malheureusement, cette information capitale n'est aucunement mentionnée dans la description du produit. J'ai un peu le sentiment de m'être laissée duper par des informations trop laconiques et séduite par un prix attractif (qui s'explique à présent). Qu'il soit indiqué que le dvd est en langue anglaise ne signifie pas selon moi, l'absence automatique de sous-titrage. Dommage donc, surtout que j'ai déjà trouvé cette info sur bon nombre d'autres produits de ce site.

Yeah its Larry Clark 'Hispanic boy adolescence' flic but that doesn't stop it having many great, truthful, awkward moments along with a smooth pace and some funny set pieces that make it seem half documentary half mtv. Really liked it.

What a let down ,after watching kids and bully ,i hoped this film would be worth watching ,how wrong could i be? The only people that could be interested would be skaters ,but they would probably laugh at it ,perhaps that is the crack,it must be a comedy ,my advice avoid .
