Mission Street Food: Recipes and Ideas from an Improbable Restaurant

A daring businessman
This is the barebone way to go into business. If you want to read this book you will find it to be fun but scary. I admit this book teaches a lot of lessons about starting and running your own business. The guest chefs and staff that were mentioned in the book is nice too. The other lesson it has to teach us in this book you better like your employees and the business because you will be spending a lot of time with them running the business also the unadulterated humor in the book is shown through. Who says you can't have fun at work? Mission street food changed California for the good and I hope more people can think this way in the future. I am sure these people struggled financal wise as everyone does in any form of business. I wish they would have stayed a longer amount of time but at least with the book there legacy can live on to future foodies.

Excellent Book
I'm only about 40% of the way through it and I can't say enough how entertaining and interesting it is. If you are interested in the effect that the recession and social media have had on food in America's cultural locations, this book is it. Reading it I couldn't help feel like the zeitgeist of food culture was captured in a lucid style. There is cussing, deep sarcasm, cartoons, recipes, and endless humor. Genius. Can't wait to visit this place on my next visit.

Good read
Its not what I was expecting, but it was a really good read. The recipes look delicious, and some of the stories are really funny.

Lots of back story, not a lot of focus on the food itself
Over half of this book is the back story on the couple that started this restaurant and how it came to be. It was interesting for the first 10 or so pages but it was a lot of overkill. The recipes are interesting - A bit reminiscent of Momofuku (which is why I bought it in the first place) but not as complicated and involved. Lots of Asian and fusion recipes (duh) and plenty of pictures which I appreciate. However, in the end I would probably pass on this book.

This is the best cookbook ever
Omg! This is the best cookbook ever. It’s a must have. The pork belly tacos are mind blowing! I could go on and on about the recipes. Just get the book and you won’t regret it. These guys are hilarious too! A great gift idea for anyone who loves to cook.

nice book but
it wasn't really what I was expecting to read, I thought it was more about food cart ideas and project, but it is mainly centered on one project, not a great inspiration.

Highly recommend
Great cookbook. Entertaining, well written, great section on meat. I have tried several recipes with good results. If you enjoy fusion food you will want this book on your shelf.

A lovely gift
I bought this as a Christmas gift for my son in law so he hasn't seen it yet, however I've had a good look and it's a really nice book which I am sure he will enjoy using.

Outstanding!
These guys truly are inspiring, cooking anything from braised pork belly on flat bread out of a taco truck to Rene Redzepki's recipes in the kitchen of a chinese restaurant, when they're not doing some Heston Blumenthal inspired burgers in a commercial centre, while donating any kind of profit to charities!!!This book is A LOT MORE than most cookbooks you may have read, in fact it stands now among the most interesting books I've ever read...The recipes go from how to -simply but- properly cook a rib eye to some much fancier stuff (mozzarella mousse, oyster and tarragon puree etc...) they spent days experiencing in some improbable kitchen. If you have any interest in cuisine, buy it, you won't regret it.

Mission Street Food
An entertaining, staightforward, dynamic and intersting book that is fun to read and look at, besides offering a lot of well founded technique and really good cooking.
