A Practical Guide to Enterprise Architecture

It is school required for MS degree as reference text book.It was hard for me to learn the new techknowlege for the Enterprise Architecture. The world changes so faster, but I learned the New Enterprise Architecure and new ways to communicate. My Org. is changee the Enterprise Architecture. I was just in time to matche the new Marketing at my Org.

Enterprise Architecture ist nach dem Begriff Architektur auf Unternehmensebene - wenn man also ein Buch mit dem Titel kauft, erwartet man, dass auch etwas darüber geschrieben wird - dem ist nur teilweise so.Dinge wir Portfolio-Management, Management von Legacies, IT-Stratgie, also alle die Dinge, die man als Enterprise Architect wirklich machen muss, kommen nicht vor.Was vorkommt sind zum Beispiel 19 Seiten über Usability, ca. 30 Seiten über Agile Datenmodellierung, ein Kapitel über Agile Architektur - aber eher Projektarchitektur. Das Buch ist also eine Sammlung von Überblickskapiteln zu Dingen, die ein Projektarchitekt benötigt. Und da hat man normalerweise schon diverse Originalquellen gelesen - was AGIL ist, kann man auch in kompletten Monographien nachlesenDas Buch ist also ein wenig zwischen den Stühlen und bringt nicht so richtig etwas .. es würde etwas bringen, wenn es auf dem Markt nichts tieferes zu den Themen oder nicht auch andere Bücher zu Projektarchitektur gäbe - so ist das Buch aber verzichtbar. Man kann es gut weglassen, ohne etwas zu versäumen.Nutzen pro Zielgruppe:Unternehmensarchitekten - da wird man auf das nächste Buche eines der Autoren verwiesen - wie oben gesagt - eher wenig nützlichesProjektarchitekten: Sollten aus meiner Sicht lieber Originalquellen lesen, statt einer Compilation (20 Seiten über Usability müssen oberflächlich sein ..)Entwickler: Dito - da gibt es jeweils tiefere BücherManager: Nicht zu empfehlen - Dinge wie Business Alignment und IT Strategie kommen kaum vor

No practical approah to Enterprise ArchitectureThis book conatains just the theretical stuff about architecture and there is standard approach to Enterprise Architecture Development.There is no or very little stuff on Enterprise Architecture that also in a superficial manner.The essence of book could be meaningful if there is a practical approach to Enterprise development based on standardized TOGAF, COBIT etc.Its a waste - No core substance.

This is a good introduction to the field of enterprise architecture. It generally doesn't go into technical detail, so anyone should be able to get something out of it. Also, it is to the point and so mercifully short. The only reason that I didn't give it 5 stars is that the book has six authors and it shows. There is no red thread running through the chapters, even if the chapters themselves are good.

The title 'A Practical Guide to Enterprise Architecture' led me to expect a book that dealt with the processes, challenges and techniques for creating an ENTERPRISE architecture. It does not. The book is about various technology frameworks. The Contents lists Systems Architectures, Solution Architectures and Service Oriented Architectures but not Enterprise Architecture. Enterprise Architecture is skimmed over in the Preface. The book barely touches on Zachman and Spewak and Hill. It ignores FEAF, TEAF, TOGAF, PERA, C4ISR, the Clinger-Cohen Act and other ENTERPRISE stuff completely. Enough said. Whatever this book is, is it is NOT a practical guide to ENTERPRISE Architecture. The book may be of use to technical architects designing solution-frameworks to support an Enterprise Architecture.
