A beautifully heartbreaking, but ultimately heart-warming story about destiny and love.
Admittedly, I read this book twice since I bought the paperback first and it was a struggle to reacclimate my eyes to print again, so I also read the digital edition for good measure. I'm glad I did.In the first read-thru of Painted Over, I felt the evolution of Paige and Ria's relationship, which in their college years was one of self-preservation and uncertainty. The rawness of wanting the best for someone you love while trying to protect the newly formed sliver of who you are and whom you have yet to be. It's a fine balance between the protection of self and giving in to your heart. People get hurt in the process. This heartbreak happens to everyone throughout this journey called, "life" and Sofi Keren's book captures the essence of this feeling perfectly. We have all been Paige; we have all been Ria.On the second read-thru, I focused on the touching moments (can't have the good without the bad, right?), and the fact the book exudes an overall sense of warmth and reconciliation as central themes. Throughout 'Painted Over', I can't help but keep thinking about the fact that life has so many potential directions, so many detours, such as the ones that Paige and Ria experienced. But in the end, life takes us where we need to be.

True love cannot be painted over.
This new author brings vitality to her romance novel. The storyline is compelling, and the dialogue so realistic that the reader feels they are watching a movie. I don't normally read this type of book, but I'm so glad I did.I had heard hints about this author, but was not prepared for the emotions this story engendered. The characters were real and unvarnished, the settings authentic, and the story flowed from page to page. I was so surprised when a tear dripped down my face.I guarantee that the reader will not be disappointed. Paige and Gia will move into your heart, and take up residency there. I can hardly wait for Ms. Keren's next novel.
