Very surprised! Great read.
I picked up this book expecting it to be an easy who done it read. I wasn’t expecting much. What I found was a great book and a new favourite author of mine. Not only could I not put it down and loved the twists and turns but I found it so interesting and informative about things I never knew went on. I loved this book so much I am buying the rest of her books! Brilliant.

Perfect quick read summer thriller
3.5 star tense thriller. The Nurse makes for chilling reading as it focused on an INCEL group on the dark web: a group of involuntary celibates who blame women for their problems. They feel slighted and overlooked and harbour a lot of hatred towards women. It is a group, where they find solace in each others' gripes, but also dangerously whip each other up into a frenzy and encourage each other in malicious behaviour towards women. A few of the men take their hatred to another level, making videos of the women being stalked as they walk alone. One decides to take his punishment of women to another level and a young nurse Nell is the unwitting victim. The novel is told from the perspective of HIM, Nell herself and Nell's distraught mother. A quick and tension filled read with a great twist towards the final chapters. A little slow in places, but binge-worthy and you won't want to put it down. The perfect summer thriller for a quick nail biting read. #thenurse #claireallan #thriller #summerthriller #bingeworthyread #unputdownable

Clever plot but mediocre execution
The first half was good but the second seemed laboured and the motivation of the characters poor.

How well do we know the people around us
I was lucky enough to get an early copy of this from NetGalley - I had planned to read it slowly, the subject matter being so tense and raw that I thought it would be easier to read in small doses - I was wrong! I got completely swept up in the story - not breathing in parts as another thread unravelled to reveal a secret. I don’t want to post any spoilers - but this book goes beyond the fear women feel walking alone - down into the darkness of the Incel forums. A daughter missing, a marriage falling apart, how well do we know the people we interact with? Another fabulous read from Claire Allan.

Thought provoking thriller
I had this book on pre-order from November having read all Claire Allan's previous books in this genre and was excited to read this when released in March. It didn't disappoint. The book centres on the incel movement, which I must admit I had never heard of before, and the story is told from 3 points of view, Nell, the Nurse, Marian, Nell's mother and Him, the incel catalyst for what befell Nell.It was a very uncomfortable read at times when reading the Him chapters as his attitudes and actions are truly incomprehensible but at the same time you know that these misogynistic attitudes are alive and well in our real lives, which makes the story much more worryingly believable. The story starts with Him posting videos on the dark Web of him following women menacingly without any physical actions, but leaving women frightened and scared. He revels in the power of seeing how afraid he makes women, who he thinks have stripped men of their masculinity and sets a hashtag #Ihavethepower on his posts. This quickly escalates on the incel forum he belongs to and he enjoys the notoriety and the 'likes' and many followers he gets. The story builds with the the death of a young woman with connections to Nell and the race is on to find her before she suffers the same fate. The conclusion of the story surprised me in that I felt more could've been done to show that men, who perpetrate this type of crime against women, are publicly brought to justice. The story will be with me for a long time and I have to admit to checking behind myself when out walking, even in daylight!

Deserves to be a massive bestseller!
As soon as I heard the premise for this book, I knew I had to read it. "The Nurse" is a captivating psychological thriller which thoroughly engaged me. I couldn't put it down! Claire Allan has really pulled out all the stops with this one. She cleverly, subtly, challenges our perceptions around who is a victim worthy of public sympathy. She also shows us how easily people can become radicalised online."The Nurse" explores the very real, very dangerous, culture of Incels. If you don't know what that means, you're in for the shock of your life. I urge you to read the Author's Note at the end for context, and I also highly recommend Laura Bates's work of non-fiction on the subject, entitled "Men Who Hate Women". Allan has used fiction to explore a hugely important (and little understood) issue in a way that is engaging and gripping. I hope this book is a massive bestseller. It deserves to be.

A nail biter to the end
This kept me gripped from the start. I could feel the fear in Nell. The frustration and despair of the parents, and I was literally on the edge of my chair right to the end.

Truly one of the best thrillers I've ever read!
I read prodigiously, usually one book every two days, but I raced through this one in a matter of hours. It was a gut-wrenching thrill ride of twists and turns and shocks and surprises. I feel quite breathless now that it's over, and I can't recommend it highly enough. If you like psychological thrillers, READ THIS ONE before you read anything else. It's absolutely outstanding.
