An Excellent Autobiography of Jim Redman MBE
I bought this book out of curiousity. I am not much of a sports fan but when I read that Jim Redman was awarded the M.B.E. (Member of the Order of the British Empire), I needed to read about his response to such an honor by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Also, I got a taste of his contributions to sports especially motorcycle racing which is still a popular masculine sport. Jim Redman's biography is rather revealing but not too much. I was surprised by how long it took him to get his M.B.E. because he was busy touring and racing. I found his book to be modest, humble, and rather engaging as well as charming. Good luck to Jim Redman MBE!

... this racer is NOT a house-hold name is a great injustice!
Why this racer is NOT a house-hold name is a great injustice!. His biography is one of he most interesting ones that you'll ever read. He lived an amazing and sometimes tragic life but managed to post 6 World Championships and helped put Honda on the map.

A very interesting and informative book by one of the worlds great motorcycle champions. A must for any motorcycle racing follower. An insight into the greatest period of development the sport has known, written by a man who is not fully appreciated for his achievements. 6 World Championships.

An epic tale of rags to riches, the bloody hard way.
I have a stack of motorcyclist autobiographies and this is the best, a humbling but also inspiring tale of how Jim sold up everything to buy a couple of bikes and then sail halfway across the world with mere shillings in his pockets to make his fortune whilst facing death on the circuits.A great tale of surviving knock after knock both in the racing and his private life whilst being totally honest with both sides of every story, Jim is known as a honest guy and this is a honest book.

A modest Hero
I have had the pleasure of meeting Jim Redman as well as reading his book. Jim is a modest hero, to whom a 100 mile per hour "parade" is going slowly around the track. Jim's book is a great antidote for an era where people are afraid of taking chances and living their dreams.

The very full autobiography
I was of age when Jim Redman was having monumental battles with Phil Reed for the 250 world championship, so to read his remarkable life, was indeed a story of determination and courage, and painful personal moments, told with candour. At the end of the book, I was left thinking, what a full life this man has had.Warts and all, what a guy.

Jim had to do it the hard way.
This was my era of following motorcycle racing, it was the best in many ways compared to today. He proved, with not a been in his pocket one could become a champ if you are willing to make sacrifices and put some hard work in to it. A cracking book. Ray
