Decent Cellular Receiver, Not So Dependable as a WiFi Router
The router functions quite well as a cellular receiver, offering commendable 4G connectivity and speeds when used solely for this purpose. However, when employed as a combo of WiFi-router/cellular receiver, it leaves much to be desired in terms of reliability and stability, particularly with its WiFi functionalities.During my experience, the device had a propensity to overheat, especially when both the 5GHz and 2.4GHz bands were operational. This resulted in inconsistent connections and frequent dropouts, hampering the user experience significantly. However, I found a workaround that elevated my user experience: by disabling the WiFi functionalities and using it purely as a cellular receiver connected via LAN to a separate router for WiFi distribution. This setup mitigated the overheating issues and provided a much steadier and reliable connection. For potential buyers, this router might suit you if you're looking to utilize it as a cellular gateway paired with a reliable separate router for WiFi. If you intend to use it as a standalone device, be prepared for potential instability and consider having an alternative WiFi solution on hand.

Great solution for failover
This is a very well thought-out product that will prove useful if you are looking for either a LTE 4G cellular broadband connection or need a LTE 4G failover solution for a cable internet connection. It also has the ability to use WiFi as WAN--that is, connect to a WiFi hotspot in a campground or hotel room and rebroadcast it with your designated SSID and routing rules (such as firewall) or via wired ethernet. You should take a serious look at this product if you are considering similar devices from Mofi or Peplink. It is based off of generic components, but it comes assembled and is all set up and ready go with SIM adapters, mounting brackets, cable, power supply, and well-configured open source software plus outstanding technical support through email. The router is based on the MediaTek MT7621. The cellular modem is a Quectel EM160R-GL, which uses a M.2 form factor and therefore can be upgraded later to a 5G equivalent. The software is ROOter, based on OpenWrt. The interface is complicated, but offers every conceivable option and is well documented with broad support available on various forums. The router comes pre-configured and ready to go for AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, Cricket, and Simple. It is also pre-configured to provide failover from the WAN port to the cellular connection as secondary. It has ZeroTier VPN installed, which is a very simple multiplatform free VPN (with paid upgrade options) that allows you to entirely remotely access and configure your modem from any device, such as desktop, laptop, or mobile without being on the same network or having a wired connection. It also has support for WireGuard and OpenVPN.The generic hardware it uses has generally tested well in other reviews. The WiFi signal reached throughout my 1500 sq-ft residence. The 30+ devices, including security cameras, I connected to it, however, strained its capacity for traffic management. In my particular situation, the best use for the router was a cellular modem, connecting the TAKTIKAL router from a LAN port to a secondary WAN port on a more robust router that similarly offers failover management. For someone with fewer connected devices and lower local bandwidth needs, I think this router would be a good all-one-solution.It did go to sleep overnight for me but I was able to adjust "Connection Monitoring" settings to ping a server and restart the modem as needed.I found inserting a SIM to be difficult, but suspect it was the included adapter, which seems to be a little too thick. I could not connect after the initial boot after inserting the SIM; however, it worked as intended after power cycling it once more. The device is relatively compact and does not seem to get warm nor does it have an internal fan.Technical support is terrific. I had a few questions and received detailed, helpful answers within a few hours.

Works exactly as described
I've had this router for over 2 months and still works great. The router works right out of the box. I was looking for a sim router that I could use with my T-Mobile magenta plan and my ATT tablet plan and this one worked with both and I didn't even need to change any settings to connect. Faster than my nighthawk! Love it!
