I used a blue light and did see results

Yes, 24 month expiration. Best if used by date is 12 months. Current inventory was produced Sept. 2020

Q: How long do you keep it in for?

The whitening gel last o er a year on storage . I whiten my teeth every six months .

Q: Does it need a light source or could be used without any external source of light?

Carbamide peroxide releases oxygen of a period of a few hours in the presence of water (no need to add water though). Not light sensitive as far as I know though possibly uv would speed up the process? I have found the 10% solution fine for overnight use with fitted gum shields to retain the gel. I obtained the gum shields from my dentist which was expensive but buy the carbamide peroxide from amazon (it works fine).
