Solid Rinse & Repeat Squad Based Shooter
The developers have got a lot right with this game from the graphics and sound to the intense gameplay. The story of Aliens needs no introduction and the familiar Colonial Marines Vs Xenos plays out fairly well in this game. The focus is on 100% shooter action rather than stealth, as the 'Fireteam' title suggests.Players can choose from the usual staple variants of gunner, support and heavy play styles and weapons are upgradeable through progress. There are no micro transactions, which is the way it should be. The sound of the weapons has been captured accurately from the movies and is glorious to hear with the volume turned up.Character and weapon styles are true to the Alien franchise and background radio chat from the fireteam leader, who speaks to you from the safety of the main base, does a reasonable job of keeping you informed of what needs to be done and why.Online co-op play is delivered as the main agenda but thankfully for those who like playing offline, the same campaign can be played solo with two AI bots to assist you. The game can be challenging even on casual/easy difficulty setting until you acquire a few upgrades, but even then, you need to keep your eyes peeled and your corners checked. The game offers 4 main missions on day one release. Each mission is split into 3 chapters, hence you get 12 levels. A horde mode is also offered. Notwithstanding some variations in setting and different enemy types, the rinse and repeat nature of the game could get old quickly for those who are not fans of the Alien franchise but it's a fun, manic, team-based shooter which captures a good deal of the chaos that reigned in Aliens (the second movie). It might be argued that the tough difficulty levels is a deliberate design choice- if the narrative is to be reflected accurately, the marines are supposed to lose!

Fun sometimes overwhelming.
Very good

Meh.
Played only on single player mode. Was boring and your a.i. partners looked scarier than the aliens! Graphics were good.

Gets better further in!
The Good: Its reasonable price, future DLC and updates are free. It plays fairly glitch free. Once you understand your character perk grid it plays allot better. It has genuinely enjoyable moments like if you survive overwhelming odds at the last second. Playing with up to three friends is more enjoyable. I’m sure this game will end up allot better by fall 2022. Worth a play through with friends for £20 or less. It has potential to become something great with the resources and more passion put in.The Bad: It’s super repetitive, a fairly limited pool of maps with not that much imaginative design until late game. Graphically it looks like a PS4 title even on PS5. Obviously released early, as base game Is way too short. It’s mostly forgettable mostly. No quick mute that I could find to mute individual players within the game which is often needed. Needs more exciting and interesting levels in DLC! like campaigns with a setup story. The hub of the game with the store and other marines needs allot of work as it’s mainly pointless to have that area atm. I’d like to see a level where the aliens are onboard a hulk with a distress call that brings the marines in! standard stuff but it works and I’d play that. The games lighting isn’t complex enough so it needs more shadows and different colour lighting like red etc! to give better atmosphere. Playing alone can be a sterile experience much work to be done there. At the moment it’s no more than 3 stars average but could easily become 4 stars or higher if massive improvements are made in certain areas. Oh and the garish gun colours! Please no more.
