A spine-tingling, all-consuming read
NEMESIS is a stunning, action- and suspense-filled mind-bender of a read. With a mystery that will keep you guessing, twists that you won’t see coming, secrets, lies, deception, and betrayal, this addictive, heart-stopping, and unpredictable thriller is not to be missed. An asteroid on a potential collision course with the earth may have rendered Min’s problem obsolete. But getting murdered every other year on her birthday is not something she can shake off so easily. Even if the end is nigh. And she wants answers. Answers as to who the man in the black suit is, why he wants her dead, why he only comes for her on her even birthdays, and how she can wake up the next morning with absolutely no trace of the crime perpetrated against her evident.Already an outsider in her small hometown of Fire Lake, she’s not sure who she can turn to for help. Her mom didn’t believe her when it first happened when she was young. She doesn’t want to risk alienating her only friend Tack by telling him the truth. And there’s something about her therapist, Dr. Lowell, that she just doesn’t trust. But when her investigation leads to information that’s too big for her to handle on her own, she’ll have to put her trust in someone. Especially if her suspicions are correct and things go so far beyond herself and the man who kills her.Brendan Reichs delivers a complex and intriguing story, told in five parts in first-person alternating points of view, that is chock full of surprises. He gives readers a puzzle to solve, introduces the possibility of a cataclysmic event, hints at potential connections and elaborate conspiracies, and then threatens to blow their minds with a shocking turn of events. The author lets Min tell the first part of his story, who is strong, independent, clever and determined. He passes the baton to Noah, a quiet, indecisive, weak-willed follower, to tell the next part. And for the remainder, he lets them take turns uncovering the truth about what’s been happening, leading up to the jaw-dropping, cliffhanger ending. An exhilarating, spine-tingling, all-consuming read, NEMESIS is the brilliant start to an absolutely must, must, must read series.

Great start, then… what?!?
I have really mixed feelings about this book. It started out pretty good. It alternates point of view between Min and Noah, both very compelling and distinct. There's also Min's friend, Tack, who is a great character, if obnoxious at times. The mystery of what is going on is set up very well, and kept me intrigued and wanting to know more. I'm thinking either Sci Fi or psychological thriller, or a combination of both. But then, it sort of veers into a futuristic version of Lord of the Flies. And one point, I thought it was going to be a battle to the death for everyone, a la Hunger Games. But the resolution of this book's arc was just sort of weird and ridiculous. As an adult reader, I was disappointed. As a book for teens, I don't know. Maybe immature readers wouldn't notice all the things that didn't quite make sense. There was also a significant amount of swearing and violence—which, yes, I know is common in YA speculative fiction. But still. I don't think I'd be comfortable with my teens reading it. I'm giving it 3 stars for the beginning of the book. Not sure if I'll read any more of the series. If you want to read a better book, try THE DARKDEEP that he co-write with Ally Condie. Much better read.

the very next day Min wakes up in a clearing just outside of town perfectly fine. As if it never happened
Every other birthday since the age of eight, Min is murdered by the same strange man in a suit. She is unable to avoid it.The strangest part is, the very next day Min wakes up in a clearing just outside of town perfectly fine. As if it never happened.Nemesis is told from two POVs: Min’s, the girl who is determined to find out why and what is happening to her every two years, and Noah’s, a rich boy who has nightmares of death and murder that haunt him daily. On top of the fact that Min and Noah are experiencing this, there is a huge asteroid that is hurtling through space towards Earth called The Anvil. This book starts off strong. It is an original idea, full of mystery and suspense, and has a great set of characters. Nemesis is full of death and murder, which will either be a plus or a minus depending on your tastes, but it was right up my alley!I liked the alternative perspectives, It was refreshing to shift perspectives after seeing everything from Min’s POV for the first half of the book.. Min is fearless, rebellious, and clever. Min was my favorite character of the two whose POV you see the events from because she was logical about the events going on around her. She was reasonable and acted in a way that one would expect when being presented with an end-of-the-world scenario. Noah, on the other hand, was meek, whiny, and a pushover. He was harder to relate to, and pretty frustrating throughout most of the book.I really enjoyed the mystery behind everything that was going on in the small town. I wanted to find out what was going on behind the recurring deaths, the end-of-the-world scenario, and what’s really happening in this small town. Unfortunately, when I did find out;, I was disappointed with the reasoning behind the things that were happening.Throughout the second half of the book, I got heavy Lord of the Flies and The Hunger Games vibes--it felt forced and the ending left me with more questions than answers. I’m hoping that the sequel, which I will be starting this week, answers everything that was left unresolved.

I really enjoyed Min's character and also her best friend
This book is fascinating!I really enjoyed Min's character and also her best friend, Tack! He is so funny and fiery, really enjoyed any scene he was in! Noah is an interesting character, I did like him, at first. The first half is a bit slow, but it does pick up about halfway but it is worth pushing through.Intrigue kept me interested in the plot and there were some very unexpected turns.During some parts of the book, I just had to stop and think 'what the hell', the twists are crazy and very unexpected.Looking forward to the sequel, hoping it's going to be fast pace!
