An EXCELLENT volume on Biblical Theology. A veritable treasure....
I was introduced to this text by a professor at Westminster Theological Seminary in California. On my first read I found the text ponderous, bombastic, pretentious and needlessly wordy. But on the third read I realized that my initial judgment was out of sheer ignorance. This book by Vos is, to put it simply, excellent and immensely rewarding. The text is chock full of beautiful insights and poignant theology.Even if you do not buy into Reformed Theology this book will give you much food for thought and most likely uplift you to new heights. Please do not make the mistake of not reading this book because you happen to belong to a denomination that does not endorse the covenantal paradigm. That would be a significant mistake and you will miss out on some profound theological insights. If there is one book on Biblical Theology that you must have then make it Vos. Yes, it is a difficult read but well worth the effort.

Great vocabulary. Great writing. Deep analysis. Loved it.
Despite the hideous book cover, the contents are pretty fantastic. I love that the font is done in that old physical print font almost like a replica. But the theology in here is really super and deep and sometimes he delves really deeply into the original languages whIch some will appreciate. If you are serious about going beyond superficial biblical theology, this is where you should go.

One of the best gifts to the Church, Vos!
This brother knew Biblical Theology (Progressive Revelation).

This book will keep the name Geerhardus Vos alive.
Had to buy this fine hardback copy because my 30 year old paperback was falling apart. Without a doubt one of the most profound piece of works in the area of Biblical Studies written in the early 20th Century. A must read for any Seminary Student. Not an easy read but one of those "Great Books" that you might want to re-read every few years.

Know what you're buying
We use this book in my seminary. If you're not using this for a class there is something you should know. As other reviewers have stated, it is a very tough read at times. The reason for this is it was not actually written by Vos himself for publication. It is a collection of his lecture notes on the subject which were compiled and published. This is why it has sentences or paragraphs which are very packed and dense with information. He would elaborate as needed during lectures to bring further clarity. It is taking me a while to fully appreciate this work. You have to engage a lot of thought to work out what is written at times. But this is why we get books like this, isn't it? I purchased the hardbound copy. Since this would probably be a book you may often reference (if you end up liking it) I would recommend getting a paper back copy, then taking it to your local office/stationary store and have them spiral bound it. Some of my classmates did this and I'm very envious of them. :)

Great content but fairly small print.
I'm not sure what the font size is but it looks like maybe 8 at the largest. The book itself is very nice and the content is good as well.

It is all about the glory of God, always ...
It is all about the glory of God, always has been, always will be. Vos shows how the Bible tells the story of God woking out His purposes through history. Vos wanted to title this book "The History of Special Revelation." I took courses at SWBTS in Fort Worth to learn more and this book was required reading in my NT course. At the time I thought it was difficult to read. Now almost 40 years later it does not seem so difficult. I think this is a seminal work in Biblical Theology. Jonathan Edwards, centuries earlier talked about some of the things Vos later discusses in this book. The Reformed Forum has a series of programs working through the book Biblical Theology that will really help you understand what Vos is saying. Work through this book, become a biblical theology addict and it will revolutionize your understanding of Scripture and ultimate reality.
