50 GREATEST DETECTIVE STORIES

Childish
The collection of writers is excellent, but the stories are childish. Some does not even challenge the intellect. Too simple and not necessarily detective stories.

Mostly famous authors, mostly not detective stories, mostly average to below average in quality
50 Greatest Detective StoriesEd: Terry O'BrienAudience: Teenage and aboveGenre: MixedRating: 2/5CommentsThis book features stories by a wide range of highly acclaimed authors, including Arthur Conan Doyle, Dorothy Sayers, Edgar Wallace, Charles Dickens, O'Henry, Guy de Maupassant, GK Chesterton, WW Jacobs, Rudyard Kipling, Abraham Lincoln, Stephen Leacock, Edgar Allan Poe, Algernon Blackwood, and others; nevertheless, this must be one of the worst collections of detective stories that I have read. Some of the stories are indeed detective stories. However, others are merely crime stories, some are horror stories, and some are altogether different, classified, at best, as human interest stories. One wonders how they found a place in this book. About a quarter of the stories are worth reading. Most are barely average, and some are well worth never reading. At least one story started in the middle, at least one story had several unconnected stories in it, and at least one story had no ending.

!Absolutely Boring!
This book is absolutely boring. It is actually a type of a never ending book for me. A complete waste of money. Don't buy it. Just the cover is really attracting. From inside, its really boring as nothing is horror AND/OR scary. So, no need to buy it. (I am sorry for offending the author's hard work but it is boring.) If you ever make stories that are horror next time pls take soome ideas. I am giving one.1. Once there was a wishing well which was beautiful. One day 13 kids went missing. A child who didn't believe that they actually went missing, threw some coins in the well made a wish and grabbed two handfuls of pennies and dollars got in the well and found the missing kids. Butg nobody could see them in and they could see out. It was the last day of the kids. (I know its not really horror but I tried my best.) Thank You!Aanya
