The Troll

We love Julia Donaldson! If your a long time fan this book is full wonderful humor and beautiful pictures you've come to love in Julia's books. It's definitely one of our favorites along with Room on the broom, Charlie Cook's favorite book, and The snail and the whale. If your new to Julia's books this book book will bring laughter to both parent and child.

I like to use more than one version for each story we read... and this paired wonderfully with the traditional 'billy goats gruff'. In both stories, the troll is tricked. This one has pirates. We also used the book for the TR blend- trip, trap, troll, trick, treasure. This is also one of our favorite authors!

This book was fun to read and the illustrations are priceless. David Roberts makes some of the greatest illustrations I've seen and there are some smart little humorous details to look for on every page. His sense of graphic lines and his interesting use of space and perspective are sublime.

Huge fans of Julia Donaldson in this house. My kids 3.5 and 1.5 love this book but I don't! It drags on and is repetitive without the signature rhyming she is so fantastic at. So until they can read it to themselves, 3 stars.

Such a cute story! The illustrations are superb and had my kiddos laughing out loud. Very quirky twist on old classics.

We are huge fans of all Donaldson's books. This is a great addition to our collection.My 4 yr. old son especially loved that there were pirates in the story.Honestly haven't read one of her books that I didn't love.

We love ALL Julia's books! Our collection is almost complete. The Troll is adorable and a must have for J. Donaldson fans!

I'm rating this book against other Julia Donaldson books - which we love. I can't think of any we don't have. This book doesn't have the flow, not even a hint, her books have and are known for. It would be a cute story, but it's, for lack of a better word - plain. If she would have written it in rhyme or somehow connected it better, it was a really cute concept and could have been a big hit, but overall, compared to her other stories, this one is remarkably disappointing. My boys, who will read all the others multiple times for days, didn't even want to finish this one.

Arrived on time and in expected condition.

It feels like this book scrapes the barrel when it comes to the storyline. Lazy recycling of the Billy Goat's Gruff and your average pirate story. Lovely illustrations though.

Of course all her books are great but we love the troll. The way his lip sticks out, when our little guy is pouting we call it his troll lip and it instantly makes him smile. You can't beat that.
