Husband wanted to take the dog kayaking... Sausage is not a water dog, so I never expected her to actually jump in the lake. Good thing I bought the life jacket... She accidentally went in the water, but popped right back up seconds later. It even has a handy little handle for retrieving her.

Fits Great! My dog is always between sizes XS and S, and he has a very deep chest and skinny waist, so it's very hard to find things that fit him well. This vest has a full stretchy underbelly panel with velcro closure. The buckles underneath close over the velcro panels, so it's easy to put it on, shape it to his body with the velcro closures, then clip him in. I got him the XS and it fits very snugly, so I can pick him up with the handle and he doesn't slide out of it. The flotation panels are thinner and not bulky. It is very comfortable for him, perfect to wear for safety when we are kyaking. My dog doesn't care for swimming, and we are not planning to let him fall off the boat, but he can wear this comfortably all day just in case. A delightful surprise for under $15!

Large just fit my 65 female German Shepard, she is barrel chested though. She loves to swim and I bring her to the beach often, this just gives me extra security. She is able to run freely without it rubbing or pulling her hair and she doesn't seem to mind or even notice it.

Last week on our lake boat, i lost sight of our little 4 pound Morkie for 10 seconds and thought he had fallen overboard. I was in a FULL panic. Luckily he had not fallen, in two years he has not fallen, but I got a bad feeling. It was getting dark and if he actually had fallen I'm not sure if we would have spotted him. When we got back to the house I ordered this life vest in an x-tra small. I liked that the blue would be very visible and the reflective stripes would work in the dark with a flashlight. I got the vest two days later and he wasn't real happy with it first day, he would not take a step while wearing it--he's a stubborn little man, but i put it on him daily and fed him his favorite treats while he wore it so he got used to it quickly. A couple of hours ago we went out on the boat and i put him in the vest. No problem, he loves it now, it means we're going to have fun.. Within 20 minutes he started to roughhouse with one of our larger dogs and he went RIGHT into the water, for the very first time in two years. THIS VEST SAVED MY SANITY. He didnt sink, he didnt flip, He swam like a CHAMP, he didn't roll, he was in complete control of himself. He's never been swimming and he was a natural. Took him a little bit (I am talking 10-15 seconds) to figure out how to navigate and get back to the boat. But he was not panicked. His head was up, his tail was wagging above water (like a little rudder) and he was in PERFECT control. and with the handle on the back it was easy for me to get him back on board. He was unfazed. He was cold but he was FINE. That's all that matters. Thanks so much for making such a great affordable product. There's no reason, if you have any doubt that your fur kid might need this to delay, summer is almost here. It will be on him every time we hit the water. The velcro is well placed and not a problem at all, very easy to get him in an out and the adjustable buckles are another level of safety. Whew. We both feel great about this purchase. I bought two. A size small for my 12 pound Chihuahua mix and a size Large for my 50 pound Pit Bull mix. Both are a perfect fit and they don't mind wearing them. One of my favorite features is the handle on the back. My 50 pound Pit Bull mix slipped off my kayak and into the lake. She swam right back to me and, surprisingly (I didn't think i could do it), I grasped her handle while she lunged up EASILY pulling her back into my kayak. I have the "sit ON" style kayak not the "sit in." It is so good to know that I can take her all over the lake and not have to hang out around the boat ramp due to being worried she would jump out and have to swim ALL the way back. I love these life vests and the peace of mind that comes with them. My Chihuahua does not go in the water and the life vest makes it possible for him to join in on the fun while being safe. My 65# Golden Retriever fit perfectly in the size Large. I originally ordered an XL because reviews said the vest ran small, but I did NOT find that to be the case. The XL of was way too big for him. The size chart was accurate. It's raining today so we haven't tested the bouancy in the water but he played fetch wearing the vest and he able to move well while wearing it.

Love this PFD for dogs! It's stylish, comfortable and functional. We took our fur-baby out boating and so many people stopped us to say how cute the life jacket was and to ask where we purchased it. Our dog is used to wearing a PetCo harness (and sometimes clothes) during her daily walks, so the life jacket did not seem to bother her at all AND we felt confident in knowing that she was safe should she decide to jump into the water.Features that we appreciate:1 - D-Ring at the top for leash attachment when walking around the marina2 - Handle at the top to be able to easily grab her if needed3 - Smooth Velcro and buckle fastening system around the belly (secure and doesn't grab fur/hair at all)4 - Reflective strips for any evening outings.*After viewing the 'How to Measure & Size Chart' from the product pictures, we measured our dog at chest 23", neck 16", and back length 15". I spent a long time reading reviews before choosing this life jacket. Unlike many others, this jacket has a great handle that is sewn to the straps for strength. This life jacket design doesn't interfere with my dog's front legs when swimming. Size medium fits my tall, skinny, 28 pound puppy well and I can easily lift her by the well balanced handle with all 4 legs dangling. I'm not sure how well the jacket floats since my dog is a good swimmer.

Your browser does not support HTML5 video.  Bought for a JRT for upcoming canoe trip. He's 9kg, 51cm chest, 30cm neck, 38cm body, a short legged, long and stocky dog. We bought the small size and it fits well around his neck and under his chest but could do with being a CM or 2 longer in the body length but for the price it's great value and we know he's an unusual size. A medium would have swomped him. Tryed it in a local lake, see pictures and video, and it worked well. Allowed him to swim naturally but adds enough buoyancy to assist if needed. While he could always swim it adds peice of mind that if we capsize or he jumps out he's not going to drown through exhaustion. It has a strong wide Velcro fastening under his body with 2 adjustable clips to secure it. There is also a Velcro strap round his neck which is backed up with an adjustable clip too. Jacket has handle on top to lift him out water and a ring to clip a lead/line to reel him in. It's bright and reflective so we'll never loose him either.

They include an extra bit of velcro to put over the exposed velcro at the chest strap, which is thoughtful. There's velcro AND straps, so double security and the fit is good and easy to do.It is a little bulky on the neck/chest for a staffy as she hasn't got much of a neck, so I thought she'd be a bit nervous of having it on. Once she realised what it does though there was no stopping her!!! She loves it. She did need hauling out at one point and the handle was very useful. I definitely feel confident letting her come in a boat with us now. Generally she just sinks like a hippogriff in deep water - staff types are not swimmers!Definitely a great product. Dried fast in the sunshine too.

Fabulous product. I bought the medium for my pug and it was perfect. It fit comfortably on him and he seemed very happy in it. It got tested out when he fell off our canal boat and it held him afloat perfectly and he was able to swim towards the bank where I was able to pull him out with the handle at the top. I don't know how I'd have fished him out without the handle! A brilliant product and certainly made us all at ease with having him on the boat, knowing he was safe even if he fell in. Totally recommend.

I've given the life jacket 3 stars. Because having a bulldog you need a large jacket. But they have short legs almost impossible to fit it. Have resorted to turning her upside down. Which she thinks is great fun. But this manoeuvre is impossible on the beach. I have to put it on at home. But then walking her on the beach without her harness. She gets very excited on the beach. Is very difficult. You need a lot of upper body strength ( I'm a grandmother). Also it gets a bit warm for her before she hits the water. Plus side very pretty. She floats. Delivery all good. She does not float without it. So will continue to use as she loves the water. They have been very kind with their response to these issues so will raise my rating

I've not yet tried these in the water so this review is based on looks and fit only.I have two small Chihuahua's so struggled to find something small enough to fit them, as these are fairly inexpensive compared to others I've seen I thought I would try them. They are a good fit round the chest, and the depth is good, however if you have a very small dog, they may be too long in length. I've debating returning them, as think I'm going to have to adjust both of mine somehow, as the belly flap that wraps underneath covers too much area on my boy dogs. If you have girls, I imagine they will be ok. I also think that I won't be able to use the rear strap because of where it sits, so they will only be fixed on by the first belly strap, therefore I don't think I would 100% trust them to stay in place, but for beach use, and light supervised swimming I think they will be ok.The quality seems to be ok. There is some fraying on the straps on both the ones I received, but otherwise they look ok.
