All the fascinating details of this man of steel his life, career are analysed as well as celebrated,in this book which is a tribute to an enduring Icon, a man that was not human or from Earth but has protected and watched over Earth with all his mighty steel strength. Scott Beatty had a mammoth task in referencing all the Dc comic archives delving deep into details of a mythological modern day superhero of our very own Hercules, that fans would enjoy and appreciate. This is a large book in keeping with DK's quality and classical style. Illustrations are superb of the quality that fans have come to appreciate and expect,in a compelling readable dramatic text. This book requires deep clever thinking and understanding of the man of steel himself Superman and has had a huge following ever since it needed to be in keeping with the expectations of his followers, and it succeeded in doing so for everyone in which there is no actual story or plot this is a historic timeline of the man of steel himself from his creation in 1938 right up until his latest appearance in 2005. The book is divided into readable and sepearate sections of each chapter from in the book delving deep into the rich colorful history of the man of steel himself superman! And there's even a section of supervillans that goes into detail of all of the vile baddies that Superman has fought with including his greatest arch-foe Lex Luthor. It also delves into his private life as a person what his vulnerabilities are as a person and also what his strengths and weakenesses are as a person towards his loved ones. Superman Book Is Super ;-)
I have loved all of the Superman movies, as well as the show Smallville. However, I don't enjoy comic books so I felt as if I was missing out on a lot of fun facts and information about America's superhero. This book was perfect for me. I've learned a lot from it, just from flipping through the pages. It has beautiful pictures and it is a great size. I'll be displaying it on my coffee table in my new apartment.

Not what I wanted
I wanted a book chronicling the history of Superman but this gave me a current history of the comic characters with a short timeline toward the end> I wanted a history of the characters and how they have change and evolved with time.

I guess it's okay--if you like the newer Superman.
I should have read some of the earlier reviews on this Website. This book may serve fans of the newer Superman, but it does little for the fans of the older Superman.Superman comics lost my readership in 1970, when everything turned bigger and shinier. Except for the first 7 pages of the chronology in the back, this book deals exclusively with the additions to the Superman legend which have taken place then. The illustrations and the text are supposed to impress the reader with how great Metropolis is, what a giant corporation LexCorp is, and how terrifying the villains are.I would gladly trade in all this hyperbole for the writing style of the earlier writers.

Wow awesome book
I bought the book used from seller (bookmyzer) they had a high customer rating.Book arrived in new condition, and was only $12.44. I found the book and insane dealused. Not sure how many pay full price. But shop around unless you want a book wrapped andunopened, id try used. The book was a 5 outta 5 stars. Not sure why some low ratings guess you can't please everyone, especially when it comes to books.

Superman: The Ultimate guide for 2002
I have been looking for a a good guide book that depicts the man of steel and his friends and enemies through the ages and how they have evolved over the decades. This book does not do that. Instead it concentrates on the current, for 2001-2002, events of Superman and his friends and enemies, delving only briefly in to the near past (for example the death of Superman). This was a bit of a let down, but still it always good to see Superman in action. But by far the best section of this book was the index of Superman titles from 1938 onwards. Now the index doesn't mention every single comic book that Superman appears in, it mainly concentrates on any important events, for example the first apearance of Lex Luthor, Brainiac, etc. I would like to see a book that has all the comic books that Superman has appeared in since he first leaped over a tall building. Other similar books for the other heroes and villains would also be a good idea and they could all have references to each other. I know most of the info is probably out on the net. but there is something special about having these reference books in the bookcase. I guess not much different from my parents who had 24 bands of an Encyclopedia in their bookcase when I was little. they still do, even if the info in the books are now outdated they are nice to read from time to time as the info in them doesn't change like it does online. In summary: More reference books depicting our heroes and villains from DC. I'd buy them.
