Aria is a volatile girl who wields two pistols and two swords and holds the highest rank in assault studies at a high school for young mercenaries. This pint-sized prodigy swoops in to save her classmate Kinji from a high-speed chase, but he ends up saving her after he switches from a boring wimp into a total hot shot! His secret? He only turns into something of a James Bond when he’s turned on! Convinced Kinji’s an ace, Aria strong-arms him into being her partner—but she isn’t the only femme fatale who wants a taste of his coveted combat skills. Aria gets Kinji for one mission, but he’ll end up with more than one finger on his trigger!

Great for Action Comedy/Anime Fans
Action comedy is one of my favorite genres. And, as it turns out, Aria the Scarlet Ammo is perhaps one of my favorite shows of the mixed genre. There exists a high school on a mega-float in Tokyo, Japan for young students who train to become butei (armed detectives), and said students are descendants of famous real-life or made up historical police/detectives (e.g., Sherlock Holmes, Arsin Lupin). Enter Aria H. Kanzaki, descendant of the famous historical figure Sherlock Holmes - a young 2nd-year who wields two swords and Ebony and Iv- er, twin handguns... and who also is a typical, spoiled tsundere. When she meets Kinji Toyama, she tries to save him from a bomb planted on his bike - only for him to save her from mobile uzi guns in an unexpected and hilarious interaction: She accidentally triggers his Hysteria Mode - a condition that turns him into a James Bond when he’s turned on (you read that right). After forcing him to join her team, unexpected events happen that test their resolve and physical endurence to the breaking point. While Aria’s Japanese voice may get tiring for some, and I haven’t watched it dub so I can’t speak for anyone, the acting is rock-solid. The only problem I do have is that the main character, Kinji, is kinda a bore when not in Hysteria Mode, but that’s kinda a common trope in animes of this ilk.Should you watch it? If you are an anime fan, it’s definitely worth it. But for casual viewers, this may not hold your interest for long. But I enjoyed it despite being a casual anime viewer, and I’d give it an 8/10, for an average 5/5.

HOLY SHHH.... THIS ANIME IS ACTUALLY PRETTY GOOD!
HOLY SHHH... THIS ANIME IS ACTUALLY PRETTY GOOD!The last episode 13 was freaky as hell and I had to watch that episode few times over again due to the bizarre addition of a unique tint of Japanese horror and mystery WHICH COMPLETELY TOOK ME BY SURPRISED AFTER SEEING THE FIRST 12 EPS.... Im also glad to hear the voices of Leah Clarke, Todd Haberkorn and Brina Palencia and the rest of the familiar voice actors who are well respected in my book! Do not watch last episode until you see the first 12 eps first. The last episode really took me by surprise and I too got kinda scared since I also have a dark hallway in my house. This is an actual gem once you figure out why all of them are needed..... The entire season is definitely worth it to add to any anime collection.

A favorite for the modern age
What is not to like about this? Guns, Girls, and naughty Gags galore! A great character list, plenty of humorous interactions with random naughty humor and fantastic shootouts and fights. Romance develops slowly through the series and with 3 girls vying for Kinji's heart, it is never a dull moment!

Fanfare
Too much Fanfare and not enough substance or story.

Beware there are TWO different Arias!
First off before my review starts note that there are TWO different Aria series listed here and Amazon has lumped them and their reviews together! The first and original Aria is the SAVE edition which is called "Aria the Scarlet Ammo" and consists of 13 episodes on two Blurays and two DVD's. It is NOT 26 episodes as their product description claims. The second Aria is called "Aria the Scarlet Ammo AA" and is a 2nd season spin off. It's the newer Essentials collection which will be out on Feb. 26, 2019 and is a Blu ray plus digital edition. No DVD's. I suggest you watch or acquire the original season first then make up your mind on the spin off?The following is my review on the original first season SAVE edition..........A strange cross between a fighting girls and a harem anime!Aria is a bit of a hybrid with strong doses of fighting girls elements interspersed with typical harem tropes. Set in a future mercenary school where all the students come loaded with pistols, swords and Kevlar uniforms it is and is not your typical anime series as it switches between the two elements being too serious at times for it's harem aspects and too silly at times for it's fighting girls aspects. In other words it's a journeyman of both and a master of none!As for this first season SAVE edition. It's a good value with both the Bluray and DVD editions included and has a full English dub. Extras are minimal. It's okay but there are much better harem and fighting girl anime out there if you don't want to combine them? Overall I'd rate it about 3 to 4 stars depending on the episode.
