Increased my security
Increase your security, July 14, 2014By SteveVerified Purchase(What's this?)This review is from: National Mfg. N235291 Closed Bar Holder For Use With 2x4 For doors, Zinc (Tools & Home Improvement)After the recent home invasion I decided to increase my security in every way possible. I live in a very upscale area in Henderson,NV. My front door was kicked in while I was home and armed. I saw that the hinges were the weakest hardware on the door. My contractor informed me that the rear door for the gargage was one second most attacked object, after the sliding patio glass doors. We examined the door and we were able to see that it had been forced open in the past. I ordered 2 sets of these 2x4 holders. They are mounted between the 3 hinges. One half way down between the highest and middle hinge. The other between the middle hinge and the lowest hinge. It does require that you cut out a section of molding to allow the 2x4 to side in and out. It does require 8 inch 5/16 cartridge bolts to fasten from the outside wall to the inside. The holes in the brackets are only 1/4 inch. Drill them open and I used large washers on the outside. I sure that a SWAT team coud not open this door now. This part was used with the closed bar holder as a pair.

cheap added security
Sturdy and cheap. There is no better way to add some security to your doors that might not be used as often. I installed this on a back garage door that I really only use when we're hosting people on our deck. I don't remember if this came with screws, but I'd suggest drilling some pilot holes and using some lag bolts. If someone wants to break in that door, they're going to have to use a battering ram and make one heck of a racket. By that point they'd probably have already regretted the decision to break into my house. I used this in conjunction with the National Mfg closed bar holder. I also added a screw with the head sticking out so if someone wanted to try and jiggle the 2x4 loose, its not going to move because the screw head will hit the open bar holder and not allow the 2x4 to slip out of the closed bar holder.

Easy and sturdy
I am using these brackets to hold my soundbar below my t.v. I mounted them to my t.v. Where the legs would go (my t.v. Is wall mounted). They're perfect!

Great value and works great
I bought these to use on the large double doors in my shed. I looked at others priced twice as much and decided to go with these. I was pleasantly surprised, good quality metal. They are solid, sturdy and a standard size 2x4 fits perfectly.

Great for using 2 X 4 to hold larger door closed
These work great for using with a standard 2 X 4 to lock a door closed from the inside. Much better than any Latch you could find. I have a 10ft opening with 2, 5ft doors. I used 4 of these near in a line at the top and 4 in a line near the bottom with 2 standard 8ft 2 X 4 to keep the doors closed and aligned so they don't warp out of shape. I gave them a 4* because the mounting area with 3 holes I think should have been longer because there isn't much surface area compared to the leverage of the 2 X 4 that you slide in.

This item is too small to hold a piece of wood
Very thin and small will not serve its purpose , don't waste your money on this cheap replica. Horrible experience! Horrible Seller!

GOOD PRODUCT
I had to give it 5 stars as the product is good for its original intent. It is the product I ordered, however, it wound up not being what I needed. I purchased 4 of these to try them out, but I didn't need one with a bend in it as I was not placing it on a flush surface. What I really needed was a straight bar as I already had the surface built out 2". To utilize the bar, I had to add an additional 2x4 to take up the extra space. I will purchase a straight bar for the rest of my needs. I guess we live and learn. I don't know where my mind was when I thought this one out. Bar Holder

Sturdier than you might think
Very sturdy, more so than I expected. Perfect for securing a door. I used the closed one on one side, and the open one on the other, thinking that it would be harder to remove the bar with closed ones on both sides, and that the closed one would be sturdier than the open one. I am happy with what I did, but in hindsight, open ones on both sides would be sufficient. The open one is strong enough.

built well, but a little small for a 2x4
these are built well, and seem like they will last a long time, the one thing i would mention is that i had to add shimsbehind them to make them deep enough to accommodate a 2x4. other then that, they were easy to install and will do the job.
