U Beauty Barrier Bioactive Treatment is made in Italy and is cruelty-free. It is a premium product with a presentation to match. The pump style plastic jar keeps the cream free of contaminants.Naturally, I wondered what it was about this product that made it different from other night creams that I have used. So I researched it to find out more before starting to use it.The box contains a flyer that is easier to read than the jar but it does not list the ingredients. I went to the U Beauty site to get that information. Tina Craig is the founder of U Beauty and she developed the proprietary Immortal Siren technology which is formulated with functional, bioactive marine ingredients engineered to act on the skin and essential growth factors to boost the proliferation of new skin.Since jellyfish seems to be a new and popular ingredient in cosmetics, it made me wonder if the marine ingredients in this cream were indeed jellyfish. I was pleased to find this quote from Tina Craig which explains it "I didn't want to use real immortal jellyfish, I wanted to bioengineer it in a lab. It took four and a half years because the texture and technology had to be perfect.”Once I got my answers, I started using it and it really is a wonderful night time face cream. The recommendation is to use it several times a week so this jar may last several months. This off-white cream is thick and has a somewhat waxy finish which works well with my dry skin. It works even better when you use this with a hydrating serum. My skin just drank this up and it feels so smooth and supple now.I am using a dispenser amount at night. When I want to have a really good skin day, I use this as a base for my foundation. I use Clinique Beyond Perfecting and this makes everything look flawless as well as locks it in place. I only do this for special occasions but it makes my skin look amazing.This package comes safety sealed in plastic wrap and there is no expiration date but it should be used within 12 months of opening. This is not meant to be used daily as a moisturizer, but overnight 2-3 times a week. This is an overnight mask. That makes a lot of sense now because of the way it feels on my skin after applying. It has that very moisturizing feeling but not in a "normal" moisturizer way. It doesn't make your skin feel tacky but it does have a sticky type of feeling. That sticky feeling goes away after 5-10 minutes, when it dries. Once it dries the skin just feels moisturized. The feeling on my face is similar to other overnight mask products I have used.This product doesn't actually have real immortal jellyfish in this, but is bioengineered in a lab. I did a little research and read that it took 4 and a 1/2 years to perfect this ingredient/formula. Very impressive and interesting! I really like the results of this because I woke up to a moisturized, plump, and bright face. Make sure to use sunscreen during the day after using this. There is a very light citrus-y type of fragrance, not at all overwhelming. A little goes a long way with this product. First off, this cream is ok. Not my favorite, but I will use it as part of my skin care regime. But I will state up front that I wouldn't pay $198 for it.I looked in the ingredient list for anything that would make it worth that price. I don't see anything special. There's a mention in the listing of Jellyfish as some part of the ingredients but that isn't mentioned anywhere else and I don't see anything I recognize in the ingredients that might be this ingredient.I did note that the first main ingredient is Urea followed by Shea Butter and Glycerin. None of these ingredients are special or expensive.I do appreciate some of the natural ingredients including bilberry, sugar cane, sugar maple, orange, and lemon extracts. Also I don't detect any kind of fragrance or even natural scents which is great for those who can't deal with that kind of thing.For those with sensitive skin, do note that they include many potentially irritating ingredients like Salicylic Acid, Linoleic Acid, Oleic Acid, Palmitic Acid, Acacia Acid, Hyaluronic Acid, Glycolic Acid, Mandelic Acid, and Linolenic Acid.All in all, it's an ok face cream. I'll use it a few times a week in rotation with a few other creams that I like as a night cream because it's thick, a bit greasy, and doesn't soak in terribly well. But no way would I purchase this at the current price. Bring it down to $40 and I'll reconsider.
