I was also afraid of this before using it, so I tried it a few times myself, as long as you screw it tight, it won't collapse easily. Make sure it is screwed by you before installing it on the stove! Then I tried to slap it with normal force, and it won't collapse. You can also test whether it is tightened before use, it is not safe to not tighten it. Of course, you don't have to slap it with force, that's meaningless, as long as it doesn't collapse when you use it, it's fine. So far I'm quite satisfied, this one is easier for me than rolling a chimney.
