First comic I ever read
Had to pick this absolute up, remember reading a smaller older version as a kid and had to buy it. The art looks great and the pages themselves are thick and sturdy

Utterly fantastic production quality.
This book is simply gorgeous. There is no dust jacket, but instead an oddly (very nice!) velvety cloth cover. While nice, it struck me as delicate, so I put a broadart cover over it straight away, and then fell into reading. The glossy pages are muted with alternating “newsprint” textures under what would otherwise be glaring white spaces; ultra-lush flat coloring plays against this to get gorgeous line art and color reproductions while maintaining a vintage ambiance. I haven’t seen/read an Absolute Edition for work dating back to the early ‘70s before, but if this is how they will handle it, I am onboard. It feels like I am at ground zero of half my favorite comics. I can’t recommend this highly enough! Wrightson’s work looks great.

Great color!
This is a much better presentation of the original Len Wein, Bernie Wrightson run on Swamp Thing. The earlier omnibus seemed too bright and the dark tone of Wrightson's art was lost. Here it pulls you into the eerie world of the Swamp Thing. Well worth adding to your collection and it's done in the same style as the three Alan Moore Absolute Editions. Nestor Redondo's art in the last three also looks amazing in this edition. All covers are reproduced as full pages and remind me why I couldn't wait to get to the comics rack at the local grocery store every Saturday!

Beautiful, way it was meant to be
Restored to it's original beauty by the best colorist in the game. This book is a joy. While the previous collected editions made...odd choices, this book is true to the original intent of this classic. The stories are timeless, Swamp Thing versus an array of monster archetypes and Anton Arcane, we also get to see Wrightson draw Batman. But we also get to see the great Jose Villarrubia obviously perform a labor of love and restore these comics to the way we first saw them. This book is a must have. It will not disappoint.

Absolutely gorgeous!
Even though I already have two other collected versions of the Wein/Wrightson run, I was thrilled when I heard it would be getting the Absolute treatment...especially when I heard that Jose Villarrubia would be working to restore the artwork to its original colors...and it all looks glorious! The stories are just as good as they have always been and now they look better than they have in years. Please support this kind of thoughtful comic book restoration and buy this book!

Order with confidence
The book is inside a slipcase, inside a box, inside Amazon's box. I won't say it's impossible for it to arrive damaged…but it would take a lot. Order with confidence.

A Note about the Colors
One reviewer, 'Scott M' mistakenly says this volumes has been recolored and the Bronze Age omni colors are the original. That is completely backwards. This Absolute edition features the original colors restored by José Villarrubia. The Bronze Age omni uses the colors from 'The Roots of the Swamp Thing' 5 issue reprint series from the 1980s. I still have that series and the colorist is not credited. The Omni edition is credited to DIGIKORE. One rather clever thing Villarrubia did was color the paper a speckled grey to approximate newsprint. This makes the pages look like they've been scanned as opposed to printed. My eye needed a moment to adjust. I was around for the original run and looking at the Absolute edition my memories of reading Swamp Thing came flooding back. Personally speaking--and this is only because I read the original comics--the colors in the Bronze Age edition is not how I remember the comic, nor is it how I wish to remember it (although it looks better on the original Baxter White paper of the 1980s). I hope DC allows Villarrubia to restore Neal Adams' work as well.If you're a fan of Wrightson and Wein's Swamp Thing, buy this edition. It is loaded with wonderful extras including many pages of original art. It has some poignant tributes to both Len and Bernie. This is an excellent approximation of the original comics. Bravo Mr. Villarrubia!

Awesome book
Everything about this book from the 1970’s horror writing to the wonderful art is a joy to see. The quality of the colours and binding is excellent and the large print make it feel fresh and new. 10/10
