Easy Organ Classics (Dover Music for Organ)

Well-known classics?
High quality sheet music book that does tend to lie flatter than similar books. "Lay flat sewn binding" it says on the front. The printing is clear with high contrast. The price is quite good for a 128-page book of music. Where the registration is shown in a foreign language, it is usually translated into English. In some cases, this just creates clutter. The Karg-Elert piece has both the original and translated registration written between the staffs of music.HOWEVER. The title and description include the words "Classic" and "well-known" which ranges from misleading to completely inaccurate. Yes, the pieces may be "quintessential" examples of a wide range of periods and composers, but few are well-known, and you could go to many organ concerts and never hear a one of them.If you need this kind of collection and are well beyond the beginner stage, you might find them useful for sight-reading or exposure to a wide range of other challenges. If you are in hopes of finding a collection of "easy" ( in the sense of simplified ) organ "Classics" ( in the sense of revered, popular, often-heard pieces ) you won't find it in this book. At least check out the complete table of contents to see if it has what you want.I'm keeping it for the sight-reading challenges, and because it is so cheap.

Easy?
"Easy" is one of those words that's truly subjective. Easy for Mr. Smith, I guess, is not the same as my easy. Easy for me means that a piece can be sightread or prepared with minimal effort. True, there are some easy pieces in this volume, but I wouldn't call Franck's "Offertoire" easy. Nor would I label as easy Bach's "Pastorale" or Foote's "Cantilène" or Karg-Elert's "Nearer My God, to Thee." Pieces like these may not be as difficult as others by the same composers that could be cited, but they don't fall into my "easy" basket. That said, this is a valuable volume. The price can't be beat. Where else can you find 27 pieces collected in one volume for under $15? Also, most of the pieces collected are unusual, off-the-beaten-track works you're not likely to have already. And the binding is such that it lies flat. It's an all-around good deal.

Absolutely smitten
I don't know how they did it but this collection has the prettiest music. I enjoyed sight reading through this on the piano even without getting on the organ.I had never heard any of these pieces before and it is wonderful to discover new music.

Great collection of works though 'easy' is relative
Great collection of music from the past 4 centuries. Easy is a relative term and I certainly wouldn't be getting this for a beginner. I'm not exactly a virtuosic organist, but am a decent service musician and these will provide challenge and interest enough for many a prelude or other voluntary during services in a handy form to have at the console for those spur-of-the-moment interludes. The lay-flat binding actually works fairly well making my frequent practice of having a print shop cut the binding off and making it spiral bound unnecessary.

Not "Easy" at all
I am a church pianist who is being "encouraged" to play the new organ at our church. I bought "Easy Organ Classics" because I needed music that I could work on that was "Easy". Well, if you are looking for beginner organ music, this is certainly not it. Do not bother purchasing it. The manual part played on the piano would be an intermediate/early advanced difficulty. It is certainly not set up to give you pieces that could be learned quickly and build skills.

The book was great, but I found out My wife already had one. They hit me for $7.88 restocking fee to return it.

It's good for fillers during the mass (service).
Many nice little ditties for organ, here. You can always use a few more interludes, even if you do improvise!

It's Okay
Perhaps it's just me, but I'm not sure I would rate every piece in this book as "easy". Nevertheless, this is a good addition to my church organ music.

Good book
Very nice book. It contains music of many different composers, some of them are beautiful works. I would say these pieces are for beginners with some skills or for beginners who have a good teacher! Not for those who started recently or who plan to start studying organ. Many of them can be played at the piano or harpsichord as well.

Beware
Great music for a very advanced musician. There is nothing "EASY" about the music in this book. Don't be mislead by the title.

Horrible selección.
Que no te lleve a engaño, esta selección es para gente ya avanzada en el estudio de piano o de órgano. No merece la pena, pudiéndose encontrar estas partituras que incluye en páginas totalmente gratuitas. No me gusta.
