CulinaStainless Steel, 13" Splatter Screen

If you fry bacon or hamburgers or any fatty meat in a frying pan on the stove you know the messy cleanup job that is sure to follow. No matter how careful you are the grease will splatter. Sometimes what lands on the stove isn’t as bad as what hit nearby appliances like toasters, etc. that are especially difficult to clean up. All that is not to mention the burn danger of hot grease landing on you or starting a fire.Splatter screens are such an easy answer, and so inexpensive, it’s a wonder not every home has one. But they don’t. For me I knew the problem existed but I never took the time to do anything about it. Then one night I ran across this one at Amazon and it seemed nicer than those I’ve seen in retail stores and the price was within my budget.The first thing I did when I opened the package is knock the product off the counter and onto the floor where it landed on its edge. Not purposely of course. I expected it to be damaged or at least badly deformed. It wasn’t which impressed me. The handle is welded securely to the outer ring. The weld isn't the prettiest I've seen but it is strong. The handle is heavier duty than I would expect for the price with an oversize and secure wall hanging ring. The mesh is smoothly welded with no gaps to trap food particles and the entire product has a quality "heft" to it that I didn't expect for the price. It is an obvious good value and head and shoulders better than the ones they sell at the big discount superstore, though to be fair those sell for about half the price.In use it does what it's supposed to. The heavier-duty construction keeps the heat from warping it and letting grease escape like the cheap discount store models. And the handle stays cool to the touch.The seller makes a claim that it can also be used as a strainer. I wouldn’t count on it unless you have three hands and are draining something very lightweight. Most of my frying pans have curvy handles making it impossible to hold the pan and the splatter screen together with one hand. Let’s just say that’s not its strongest feature.Overall I like this product. It would be a stretch to say I “love” a splatter screen, and no it’s not perfect but it does the job as it should. Over time it gets dirty and shows some corrosion and rust but it’s being used in a pretty harsh environment and I don’t expect it to look brand new forever. I would buy this product again.

First let me say this is excellent as an anti splatter guard for keeping grease off of the stove. Have used it many times and it did a very good job. Some have commented that they wanted to use this to drain a skillet. That being said, I would not use it to drain a 13" stainless steel frying/skillet pan. The reason is that I think the handle would not support the weight that the 13" pan could contain. I have not tried with a small pan because I just use the lid. I guess you could lay this screen on another pan and then pour to drain. If it had a attachment (handle) at the other end I could see it being use to drain a large skillet/pan by using mitts on both ends.For using as a splatter guard it is very good in doing that job as that was the reason I purchased this item. It's also stainless steel and has a nice look and feel. Not too heavy or too light.

When I look at this splatter screen on top of my pan all I have is 'EH'. It is not great and it is a bit disappointing. All those glowing reviews set the expectations bar rather high. Then you get this huge thing, you use it and you see it's really not that great.In all honesty, it does work and it's not that bad. But it's so short of being great and excellent. Strong splatters still get through. Yes it does reduce the amount of splatter but it does not eliminate it. While cold this screen feels sturdy and decent but as soon as it's over the pan for a few minutes the screen warps from the heat creating gaps between the rim of the screen and the pan. It also feels rather flimsy when hot.Overall, it works even though not as well as one could hope. But I would definitely never try to use it as a strainer - it is not strong enough for that.

i never used a splatter screen before, but OMG this makes stovetop cooking so much easier.. the handle feels comfortable and secure and there is very little to clean on or around the stove after doing messy stuff like searing meat. size is good for smaller pans also as i haven't seen any dripping from the rim. it appears to be sturdy for a mesh product but i won't use it for anything like a cooling rack or a strainer after boiling potatoes so as to extend the life. i mean, its mesh ! i wash it by hand, gently, it comes clean without a problem. the material is all stainless so it looks and feels quality. i store it on top of other cookware.

Used this to cover a fry pan while cooking sausages that were splattering grease everywhere--laid this right on top, and the spatters landed on the underside of the mesh so none came popping out of the pan. Good size--should be able to use this on all sizes of fry pans. Was worried it might melt and warp a bit, but no problems there. And I was concerned about how I would be able to clean grease off the mesh, but had no issues--came right off. Should have bought one of these years ago.

I bought this for my mom for Christmas and she loves it. I read a lot of reviews on different splatter screens on Amazon and I decided to pay more for this one because it is stainless steel. A constant gripe on other splatter screen reviews was that they rust quickly. So far no rust on this one. For me, that makes it worth the extra money. Plus, it has a nice design and is sturdy.

I've had several of these, and durability has been an issue. Not sure about this one yet, as it is new, but it works well for the stated purpose.

I've always purchased the cheap screens from the swap meet for a couple of bucks, but they always rust and break within a year. I decided to just go for it and buy a nice stainless steel one. It is a little big for my needs, but better too big than small, and it looks very sturdy and well made. Hopefully it will last awhile.

Very useful, slightly heavier than I though, but not a bad thing.It is VERY big and this why I bought it!
