It does the job but the hinge is flimsy and has bent out after a few months use.Update 3/8/2018: I received a replacement about a week ago and I can say that the new one appears a bit sturdier. It may just be due to the replacement being new and tight but the lid definitely feels stiffer and does not flex as much as the original; perhaps this will keep the hinges from bending out.Update 9/13/2018: the clipboard has been fine under some pretty hard use. I'm still careful with the lid as in not forcing it over a box that's too full. Rating now 5 *.

Well, to start out I bought 5 of these as we use them weekly at our fire academy. Cadets use the document holder type clipboards to bring their evaluation sheets to the different skills stations throughout the day. Up till now we have had a mix of plastic and aluminum clipboards and the plastic ones just weren't holding up like the aluminum ones were. I saw the SteelClip was American Vet made and I wanted to keep our business as local as I can. Plus they looked similar to the ones we already had so I was convinced. I received them the other day and upon initial inspection they were lighter than the ones we already owned and coated in a grey powdercoat/paint which gives some grip to it. Liking it so far, I pull it out of the box to find that the document holder section wasn't quite as deep as the ones we already owned (both are at two other sites currently so I don't have exact measurements to compare). I opened the top up to find it is made of a very thin sheet of aluminum, much thinner than the other aluminum ones we currently owned. Non-the-less it seems durable enough, but when holding the clipboard in the open position with one hand (while imagining rummaging around for paperwork and a pen with the other) the edge of the document box was almost sharp against my thumb. The thin gauge of aluminium was just uncomfortable in a common position. I'm no expert, but maybe a rolled lip would help that and increase rigidity - and it just really needs to be the bottom edge of the document holder box. So onto my biggest complaint, when I closed the top for the first time, the hinge pin fell right out onto the floor. So I opened up the other four I had ordered and same result - open, close, hinge pin falls out. Turns out they didn't pinch off the end of the hinges to keep the pins in place. I don't have the time for returns and such as my next academy starts shortly, so my solution was a small dab of silicone in each end of the hinge and hope that lasts the vigor of what fire academy cadets can put this through. I hope this gets back to the company, because I don't want compensation or reparation, I just hope you take some constructive criticism from a place that puts equipment through the ringer and see's where they can be bettered.

Pretty good clip board. Sturdy. My only issue is the rod for the swivel, and I guess it is better than most. I’ve had this a while and the rod has slipped out of place twice, but easily slid back. Other clipboards I’ve had would not slip back into place.This clipboard will hold a dell 13.3 inch Inspiron laptop, and a few papers. I wish the cupboard was deeper.Excellent customer service. Mine was damaged during shipment and seller shipped me another quickly.

I ordered this metal clipboard with storage for my part-time job at a stadium where I am a Supervisor for college football-games. The strong clasp holds up to frequent opening and closing of the storage where I keep log sheets for the games, incident reports, forms, and miscellaneous supplies. The lightweight material makes carrying the clipboard storage around for 8+ hours a breeze. The smooth edge clip is an excellent feature so you do not cut yourself on the edge like some clipboards. Kuddos to Zoalux for a great design.

This clipboard is fantastic. Lots of storage space, and a traditional wood clipboard actually fits inside of its main storage area (effectively adding a second divider to the case).The latch is solid, and powder coating durable, and it sheds water (if left upright) from the internal compartment.My only gripe (and not "cause" for reducing to 4/5 stars) is that the pen holding compartment tends to not keep the pens separate from the main storage area (they don't fall out, just sometimes end up buried in your internal paperwork).

I've used the clipboard a few times in the field now, and it is sturdy, well-designed, perfect for a solid writing surface and paper storage on the go. Love how the compartment opens up on the bottom side. Clip is very sturdy. The ONLY sort of less than positive thing I can say is that my business cards have slipped out of the inside compartment when I'm lifting it out of the truck. A rubber band will keep the cards together to prevent this.

I've had this aluminum clipboard for 15 months and my opinion is the same today as it was when I made the purchase. It's made from thin (gauge) aluminum which gives it a flimsy feel and dents pretty easily. They should redo this clipboard and make the aluminum twice the thickness (gauge), install a spring loaded paper clip and pen/pencil holder inside. I would be more than happy to pay an extra $10 for it (and leave a five-star review to boot).

I am impressed with the construction and the quality. Outside clip holds tight and even one sheet of paper can’t be pulled out of it. The inside is deep enough that it holds my pad of paper, all of the additional sheets I must carry, and still has room for my iPhone 8 in its heavy Oster Box. As I am the Executive Housekeeper at a youth camp and am outside in all kinds of conditions, it seems like it will take it.i will follow up later with comments onwear as the summer goes on.
