The right stuff.
Penofin Oil finish usually fits the bill, a proper balance between quality, performance, and price. The Transparent Redwood Stain and Sealer has a rich reddish-orange-brown color to it, and its transparency lets the wood grain show through. It's a deep-penetrating oil, and doesn't merely coat the surface with a dodgy "wood like" coating. It prevents the wood from UV-drying, and usually lasts about 5 years on redwood before needing a recoat. With the ever-rising cost of wood fences these days, a good preservative product like this makes great sense, and for fences, oil beats any water-based coatings I've ever tried.

Nice color and sprayed well
Used my battery-operated sprayer and stain sprayed and covered my fence very well and left a nice redwood-looking finish on the cedar.

Work great.
I had to really stir to get the pigment off the bottom, but when all is said and done it was easy to apply and looked really nice. It was applied to really dry wood and I used a brush to work it into the wood. It still didn't take long, and I feel better about having something on the wood to help protect it this winter. I used redwood and because I did stir it well the color is good everywhere.
